BCCI are trying to charge broadcasters £500,000 just to be allowed to use a commentary box. Sky just told them were to stick it and we'll have Gower and his ilk live from the West Indies it seems.

Looks like a blatent attempt to secure a monopoly on broadcasting rights for the BCCIs partners really.

No it's just for Sky as only they do that. I think Sky just paid for the feed in the contract. And they want to bring camera's or alter the feed given while using the facilities with their own comm team.

BCCI themselves now produce the coverage as of the NZ series. My guess is this isn't about money at all but about that altering and other techy things Sky would bring... 500k demand stops that and gives back some control.

Apparently Star's comm will be on the red button too.

Agnew was also moaning on Twitter that the BBC would have to "rent" a comm box.

I'm all for anything that would stop him going on the air.

The article in The Times today also says that the BCCI are demanding £50,000 off the BBC which is odd seeing as they only do radio commentary from the ground so nothing to do with feeds or anything else.

I don't know if cricinfo is blocked, I just assumed they cut costs by having commentary from home.

Yeah not for comm just generally I think. Former CI editor actually tweeted this today anyway:

knittins: Wonder if Sky will cover the matches the way Cricinfo does. From the stands. #BlockedbyBCCI

Meanwhile, Aus report that revenue went up $97m due to India's tour...

Frankly I don't care who provides the cameras, commentaries or whatever, as long as I can see the test match live.

Doesn't bother me. I've seen cricket on the Asian channels on Sky anyway and it's a similar scenario.

Isn't this tv deal stand off obvious? If the people who show the cricket in India have to pay over the contract to commentate when India are in England, then Sky should when England are over there. Same with BBC. Surely there are hundreds of precedents.

agree with ddb here , i dont think they money has anything to do with it , its about the BCCI controlling the coverage imo

wasn't the blackout at the start of the ODI series last year all to do with a dispute between the BCCI and the broadcaster as the BCCI refused to allow them to use hawkeye as part of the tv coverage ?

SKY might be the only broadcaster that provides the "full" commentator coverage for away tests as well but they have been doing that for a long time now so cant see why this should be such a last minute problem as they are not asking for anything they dont usually get afaik and haven't had for every away test since SKY came into being really
