Warne vs Samuels

Postby dan08 » Sun Jan 06, 2013 12:48 pm

Was all going on in the BBL today! Warnie shouting "F**k you mate" to Marlon Samuels while having the microphone on. Warne throwing the ball at Samuels and then Samuels throwing his bat.

In the actual match, Renegades defeated the Stars.

Not sure what to make of all that handbags but I suspect there may be punishments. Not the sort of behaviour needed on a cricket field.

I can barely believe what has been written about it, how can a player get away with holding on to a batsman to stop them running?

Both deserve a huge fine and a lengthy ban (not much of a punishment in Warne's case). David Hussey wasn't exactly innocent in all this either.

I havent seen the hussey incident but if samuels grabbed his shirt there is no defence to that.

Warne should have left it to the officials to deal with it. His harassment of samuels was over the top. Both of them deserve whatever punishment is coming their way.

No argument with Malinga bowling chin music. I believe that once you hold a bat in your hand you should play anyrhing thats dished out whether you open the batting or bat at 11. Samuels allowed his concentration to get disrupted and took his eye off a short ball from Malinga when attempting a pull....a cardinal error. I just hope he hasnt suffered serious damage to his eye or that could be career-threatening....

Warne was found not guilty of throwing the ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner.

He definitely did that on purpose. Unfortunately, had he been found guilty of that, he'd have copped an eight game suspension, thus ruling him out of next years' BBL, and preventing lots of folks coming through the turnstiles. CA have really looked after their own interests with that verdict.

Warne should have got a harsher punishment, but at least he did get at least a punishment of some description.

'Marlon Samuels has accused Shane Warne of "desperate" behaviour unbecoming for a legend of the game after escaping with a reprimand for his part in an ugly confrontation with Warne during the Big Bash League....Samuels was found guilty of unbecoming behaviour in his confrontation with Warne during the Melbourne derby between the Renegades and the Stars on January 6. He threw his bat away in frustration after he was struck on the body by a return from Warne, but the BBL's Code of Conduct commissioner John Price ruled that he had received "extreme provocation"....Samuels was infuriated that only Malinga among the Stars side checked on his welfare as he left the field bleeding from an eye wound, but he praised the support he had received from the Renegades and vowed that he would only represent them in the BBL. From the ugliest of incidents came a rare sign of player loyalty in the money-buys-all world of Twenty20.'

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/ ... 01640.html

To me, the worst part of this incident is that aside from Malinga, none of the Melbourne Stars players showed any concern about his bleeding eye injury, which could have been a career-ending one. It's all well and good to play hard on the cricket field, but that was inexcusable IMHO....

I thought it was pretty ordinary too, and really only served top highlight that the Stars had targeted Samuels. From where I was sitting, I could see that Samuels was hurt, and when he came off, blood was clearly visable under his helmet. I'm not surprised that Warne didn't check to see that he was okay, but I was disappointed that none of the others except for Malinga did.

"Cameron White, the Melbourne Stars batsman, has labelled as "remarkable" the reprimand given to his Melbourne Renegades opponent Marlon Samuels over the altercation that earned Shane Warne a one-match BBL suspension. White has also refused to apologise for not going to the aid of Samuels when he suffered a severe facial injury from a Lasith Malinga bouncer later in the same match."

http://www.espncricinfo.com/big-bash-le ... 01699.html

White seems to have lost all sense of perspective....
:texas!
On the other side of the coin, Samuels is overflowing with praise for how the Renegades handled his case during a very frightening time of his career, and if he recovers, he's pledged that he would play for no other team but the Renegades, such is his gratitude for how they've handled him. I think the way the Renegades took care of Samuels is a lesson for the WICB....

I heard Cameron White's comments too, and I thought they were pretty ordinary. I can't help but feel that more is being made of this in order to spice up the rivalry between the two franchises in order to get bigger crowds for the local derby next year.
