Third ex-Wigan player joins Everton this week. If I were an Everton, I'm not sure I'd be too impressed that Martinez's strategy to improve my team is to bring a load of Wigan players with me. Can only see Everton heading in one direction.

Wigan might be happy to be getting there wages down.... Martinez still helping out his old team.

Reminds me of Salvador Cabanas. He was shot in the head at point blank range in 2010 before the world cup by a drug lord in a posh club bathroom in Mexico City, apparently after making an insulting remark or gesture to the wrong person, and subsequently could not play for three years since. Not only did he survive but he was technically fit enough to play for Paraguay in the world cup, but problems with his sight and memory loss forced him out of the side.

He came back recently, but sadly has been unable to score in 20 odd appearances for a Paraguayan Division 3 side....

Tiote and Sissoko haven't refused though, which makes the issue odd.

There was a 30min documentary on BBC about a week ago called the "Muslim Premier League" or something similar and it followed a few muslim players and learnt about their prayer/training schedule and how Ramadan affects them etc. it was all very interesting.

Gambling was a topic that came up and I can't remember who it was, but they were talking about how alot of the players would play cards and gamble but they couldn't partake.

They then asked the Wigan GK Al Habsi about how he felt about Wigan being sponsored by a gambling website, he basically said it was out of his control and therefore not an issue.

It's no different from when Northern Rock or Virgin Money were our sponsors so I don't quite get it. Also he's playing in the Barclays Premier league. From what I understand Muslims don't agree with interest and so Muslim banks don't offer/charge interest, and so the problem is not the high rates Wonga charge.

I hope hes not using this as an excuse to get a move away from the club ( before anyone says anything I am NOT accusing him of that ), but it certainly doesn't seem too add up.

Looks like a full house at Bournemouth for the Real Madrid game despite the entry fee.

Real currently winning 5-0 with 2 goals for Ronaldo.

Is it earlier this season because of next year's world cup?

No its normal. Charity Sheild is first Sunday of August with the league starting the week after... and the football league playing the saturday before.

The Olympics delayed the football start last year by two or three weeks hence you might assume this year is early

The first Saturday in August is normal? I'm sure it use to be the second week, but I could be wrong?
