FIFA World Cup in Qatar

Postby yuppie » Sun Jun 01, 2014 9:22 am

More noise today about the bribing process in Qatar for the 2022 world cup in the times/bbc today. Not going to change anything, though Blatter has started to speak out against it.

Would be great to see it get moved.

FIFA World Cup group stages

Postby Aidan11 » Mon Jun 23, 2014 8:56 am

Portugal have it all to do.

If any European teams are blaming it on heat and humidity for their poor showing wait until they get to Qatar.

Then why are they worried about playing over there? They are talking about playing in the winter when it's slightly cooler disrupting virtually the entire European football season.

air con?

just a ruse to try and pretend that shed loads of cash, and brown envelopes, hadn't been a factor in the decision

Agreed. After this tournament can we not just put it in a place that actually likes the game, and has that passion.

Qatar is simply a dumb option.

Didn't it come down to USA or Qatar ?? USA would of been a good option, they already have stadiums built and would help the game grow over there.

Only small problem is how big America is, and traveling would/could be a nightmare.

Oh well.... fair enough

no drinks breaks needed every 10 mins for the grass, then

Did the Japanese ever get those big indoor stadiums up and running, with the pitches dragged in from outside for the games?

America had it in 1994. Too soon for another one, I guess?

When is it our turn? A couple of brown envelopes here and there, and we could be in the semi's (see Korea).

We're too honest. We think we can host a World Cup by saying to the voters "Look here's David Beckham. Not impressed? OK here's Bobby Charlton. But wait there's still one more...Ladies and Gentlemen we give you....Prince William".

Whilst I think USA did bid, I think it was more a case of Australia or Qatar.

And Australia has most of the grounds and infrastructure in place. Not to mention they already had a record of hosting a big multinational sporting event recently. Well more recently than Qatar
