What a coup! Any other big name players in the league?

Still searching for that elusive win.

Lost the toss for the 1st time this season and elected to bowl. Their top 2 best batsman put on a 151 run stand for the 4th wicket, with only 3 frontline bowlers at my disposal I was stuck whether to go all out with my bowlers, or bowl part-timers in order to waste overs. With a possible declaration looming, I put myself and the 1st change bowler back on and we took a glut of wickets as the opposition went from 196-4 to 219 all out.

The opposition gambled and bowled their best two bowlers for 20 overs straight, by which we only had 2 wickets intact and eventually dismissed for 72. Can't fault the effort of my players, but the biggest problem is a chronic lack of experience particularly in the batting department. That said a number of players are starting to get their eye in with the bat so i'm hopeful the runs will come.

Today I found out why covers are really important. 48 all out on a sticky wicket, 8 wicket loss. Ridiculously soft pitch. Got my first runs of the season though, all three of them.

And then came home to find that the club has been featured in the Telegraph!

Still searching for that maiden win of the season. Lost the toss and got put into bat on a slow and low wicket affected by the overnight rain, we grinded to 67 all out and I was left stranded 5 not out off around 25 balls.

My opening bowling pace/swing pair responded brilliantly, restricting the opposition 11-4 and 30-5 at one point. However a combination of dropped chances and aerial shots landing safely. Eventually we lost by 4 wickets, though to be fair one of their players who came in the middle order gave nothing away and carried his bat.

Next week is a huge game against fellow joint bottom side, who are also winless this season.

Saturday was a huge game against fellow joint bottom side, who are also winless.

Won the toss on a very humid day and opted to bat, coming up with a plan for the top order to hang in there for 20 overs to build a platform and then kick on.

Despite losing our opening batsman for a 3 ball duck (played a stupid shot) the plan nearly worked. However our no3 batsman was controversially given out even though the ball was a full toss shoulder height to a fast bowler. Then the real batting collapse happened 5 overs either side of drinks, started by me getting run out (5 off 3 balls) when making a bad call for a 2nd run. Eventually we were dismissed for 60 on what was a dangerous track that got a huge amount of lift off a good length.

The low toyal gave the opposition a confident boost, in which who the opening pair got off to a bright start. Adding to the misery by regular opening bowler with 18 wickets to his name had to come off due to a knee injury. As I already brought myself on as 1st change, this prompted another change and although we tied both ends for 10 overs (I returned with 1-15 off 5 overs) the batsmen bided their time and eventually won by 8 wickets.

Match was called off by the umpire 30 mins before play due to the light and persistent rain. Really frustrating considering the wicket and outfield held firm, but two sharp showers made the wicket softer and would've churned had we played.

Thanks to barely anyone turning on to nets the other day, I had a one-to-one batting session with him. Insanely lucky - I'm sure that people would pay a lot of money for a coaching session with Flower.

Our match got abandoned due to a sharp downpour 75 minutes before the start time, affecting the bowlers run ups and the umpire was in the opinion the weather forecast wasn't to get any better.

A few of us have got together and held our first indoor net session of the year, a very productive and encouraging session after 4 months out of action. A bit of wayward bowling as expected, but most deliveries were of a decent line and length which allowed batsmen to get bat on ball.

On a personal note i'm looking to convert from military medium bowling to off-spin this year. Spin bowling options are virtually non existent after the regular 2nd xi spinner transfered for another club after the opening game. All but 2 of the completed matches played last year I went with an all seam bowling attack.
