Why? Harry has a history of appointing 'names' to his backroom staff. It's not as if he does the work on the training ground. He spends Sunday - Friday either tapping up players or hanging out at his expensive place in Sandown, and then Saturday's in the dugout.

But don't be surprised. Pulis is/was in a great bargaining position. One of my friends is the daughter of someone within Pulis' close inner circle (Pulis is her brother's godfather I understand), and I'm told that he knows full well pretty much every chairman of a bottom half PL club will be interested is his availability should their club start this coming season poorly.

So take a punt now at Palace and ask for a substantially higher transfer budget, and if that fails (which it has) then walk out, become unemployed for a short while, and then walk into another PL job. Quite probably, a better PL job. A Villa or a WBA or a West Ham.

There's little risk of Pulis finishing with egg on face as a result of this. Palace on the other hand...

never really been a fan of the style of football pulis has his teams playing but from a results perspective what he did with palace last year was pretty incredible so he will walk into another job , might be a few managers looking over their shoulders if they have a dodgy start to the season as chairmen will not want to take the chance he might go somewhere else

Not really sure I would employ a manager who walked out on a side a day before the season starts.

Maybe Parish seen the money Pulis wasted at Stoke and didn't want to fund money for crap just to finish in the higher end of the lower half of the league.

Pulis may have turned round Palace last year, but he was funded well at Stoke and took them on a long road to nowhere in the end.

What does it mean though, lack of effort? Lack of money on the table? That's most likely, and to be fair to Parish, who the hell wants to go pound for pound with a Harry led QPR on "who pays the most wages for the player"??? Harry would win that battle even if Barcelona and Real Madrid were involved.

As for Sigurdsson, very good player in my eyes, but Swansea are a bigger club. I don't think either transfer is evidence of poor transfer practices.

Also, have to consier the fact they did sign 23 players since beig promoted, its not like he hasn't put money down

Like I said, its all hearsay, but if Caulker,Sigurdsson etc. didn't even have talks with Palace, then that must be an issue.

It would be odd if West Ham replace Big Sam with Tony Pulis in the hope of better football.

I'm always a little saddened by the start of the new football season. An end to the short period each year when other sports can get an airing, and maybe even thrive a little, before they get squashed back into the box, to be forgotten, as football dominates everything again.

Pity really.

I might not bother with football this year......... see if I actually miss it. (after all, I didn't miss sky sports, then didn't miss sky, now haven't missed England cricket)
