Why it's always assumed that documents are leaked on instruction from senior figures at the ECB I don't understand. We know that many leaks from government and other majour organizations are leaked by employees in order to embarrass their employers or for cash payments, so why not this document.
From the extracts on cricinfo I cannot see the ECB gain anything by making it public, if not the reverse.

Well, the leaks suit the ECB agenda (such as KPs contract negotiations) rather than undermining them. Admittedly, this leak doesn't help the ECB at all. Maybe they were supposed to unofficially release the content rather than the actual notes.

Given the sheer amount of stuff that was supposed to be private which has ended up in the press over the years, it is good to see the ECB misjudging something, and to finally see something that no one can dispute either its source or the private nature of it.

Given the general anti KP nature of the press I'm sure the peurile nature of the dossier and that it supports the accusations about Flower KP has made will be ignored.

ECB back-tracking now saying this leak wasn't them, it was a due-diligence document prepared by their lawyers in preparation of the book release.

No surprise there considering the press and twitter reactions to it. If anything, this is proving that the old stockbroker boys maybe good at selling shares, but running a cricket board in the public eye is a struggle too far.

I expect Giles Clarke, Collier and Downton's resignation in the next few days, along with Flower in his new capacity in the system.

I disagree with the press ignoring this. I think this is going to get messy... VERY messy. The press are going to have a field day on this one.

We see a bowler hold his hand up to a batsman when he bowls an accidental beamer but we wouldn't be able to tell if a fielder just said "sorry guys" for a dropped catch.

Most if not all, will. That's what makes it so ludicrous.

Spot on, it goes on at all levels of industry and government. It is nothing new or unexpected in this particular case.

I must admit I don't rate the ECB that highly and Giles Clarke strikes me as an inarticulate, port swilling, big lunch eating, oaf. Should get on with Pietersen then.

Yes, it is far more likely that lawyers, given their professional code of conduct, would leak this rather than the ECB who have repeatedly shown the ability of a sieve to keep private meetings behind closed doors.

Whoever gave this to the press has made KPs job a whole lot easier, shown Flower to be an appalling man manager and deeply petty, and ultimately proved what many suspected: there was no incident which justified ending a player's career aside from personal politics and the need for a scape goat.

It's amusing to read supporters of Pietersen jumping on this email/dossier and claiming it exonerates him for everything and really he's a bloody lovely bloke and the ECB and all the England players are bastards.

Lets look at this particular accusation, because I was interested to know which other two younger players were involved.

"Upon arrival in Adelaide for the Second Test, AF [Andy Flower] gave express instructions to players not to stay out late and not to give the scandal-voracious press any ammunition, which KP immediately disobeyed by taking out two young players drinking with him until late (an incident which was front page news in the Adelaide press the following day)."

Now correct me if I am wrong, but it does seem like that is Stuart Broad, current England limited overs captain, and not a random "young player"..... Jonny Bairstow is believed to be the other person, btw.

Also, the ECB released a press statement to say when challenged.... ""They are free to do as they please - they are grown men. There has been no breach of team protocol,"

Interestingly, Tim Bresnan, who had a lot to say in public regarding Pietersen and his attacks on Prior, also said ""I don't understand why it should be," he said. "They are grown men, they've not broken any rules as far we're concerned."We have quite relaxed rules within the team and anyone who breaks those is dealt with accordingly. But they've broken no rules so I don't know why it should be an issue."

So when did this become an issue?
