Kane has scored about 8 goals in the UEFA Cup, not sure if you count them as Powelly says.

I think Man City remain 2nd on account of playing a home match vs Chelsea. The goals scored, goals conceeded and points are the same though.

Chelsea lead on alphabetical order. As alphabetical order is not ultimately a tie-breaker though, were it remain like this come the end of the season, Chelsea and City would play off at a neutral venue.

I was just going by a comment earlier , maybe they are counting goals in all competitions

Kane is also good at diving for penalties, and because he's the darling of the English media, nobody notices, except Lineker, who accurately called it a dive....

In the World Cup, Fred gets fouled, a light touch on the shoulder, goes down easily, wins a penalty, and the English media is outraged....

Kane is lightly touched on the side of his foot, does an impressive swallow dive, wins a penalty, and the English media ignores it....

Billy Jones also does an impressive dive for Sunderland against Man City after being lightly touched by Zabaleta, wins a penalty, and the English media ignores it....

That's football for you...the playing field of media coverage is never level.

Does the home tie not count as a tie-breaker now? Obviously it wont decide the season, because Chelsea will play at home versus them at one stage.

I always thought it came down to a coin toss if everything was balanced? I remember a situation in the last few years where they discussed the possibility of the coin toss deciding a Champions League spot?

I maybe wrong.

I thought they were both clear penalties. Not sure you can say the theatrical dive means much if it results from a foul, the problem is diving then there is no contact.... in both the above cases, there was more than sufficient contact.

Its sad, but players who are honest and try to stay on their feet don't win penalties against teams like Chelsea or Man City, as the ref wants to not give things.

A player is well entitled to demonstrate a foul to the ref in that situation, the problem is doing it when there is nothing there. That is why it should be retrospective.

Mike

Kane got fouled by Cahill, and it was a clear pen. No doubt whatsoever.

I blame Cahill for bad defending. Any contact, and a player has a right to go down. Not saying that's perfect, but defenders get away with murder, especially with set-pieces, so you will look to gain an advantage when clipped etc.

Indeed, that was my point. If a player gets contact and doesn't hit the ground, he doesn't win the penalty 9/10 out of ten when he should.

We shouldn't complain about players hitting the deck after being fouled, we should punish those who did it when not fouled.

I mean a big one can be demonstrated in American Football, which for health reasons has had to start protecting players from savage and avoidable hits. You see a tiny late tap on a guys helmet, and he will go down like he is shot (for an example, try googling Matt Stafford vs Packers last week) and roll around in agony. hat that has done, however, has focused refs on watching helmet contacts or late hits on the QB like an absolute hawk, and those get called a lot more now.

The net effect has been a lot less people getting intentionally hit in the head, and bleeding from their ears or getting concussion as a result. It took the theatrical reactions to show refs when the illegal contact occurs, and they have reacted to that.

Without that, players would still be taking whacks to the head like the men they used to be.... and retiring with physical or mental disabilities like they use to be.

Its an extreme example, but diving when you are contacted is a good thing. It stops players from taking kicks and makes defenders know they cant get away with the niggly small contacts. That should be encouraged imo. If its a foul, it doesn't matter how you act to make the referee know.
