My series ratings:
SA
Alviro Petersen - (4) 86 runs at 21.5 in 4 innings not good enough, in what turned out to be Petersen's farewell series
Dean Elgar - (9) 217 runs at an average of 54, very good return for Elgar as he looks to cement his place at the top of the order
Faf Du Plessis - (8) - Fantastic century at PE, followed by a half century at Cape town, played well and looking settled at 3
Hashim Amla (10) - Skipper lead from the front with 342 runs at an average of 85. Another series win for him as well...without Kallis!!
AB De Villiers (10) Along with Amla scored runs for fun, 310 runs in the series from just 3 innings at an average of 103!! Also tidy with the gloves
Stilian Van Zyl (9) Very good first series for Van Zyl, hundred in his first test, followed up with a couple of solid knocks, also grabbed his 1st test wicket
Quinton Du Kock - 18* in his only innings before injury struck
Tendi Bavuma - just 25 runs in 2 innings, didn't look confident, expect him to lose his place when Duminy comes back
Vernon Philander (5) just 6 wickets in the series for Philander which was a suprise...first time he's looked off the boil...he will be back
Dale Steyn (8) 13 wickets for Steyn including a fantastic 6-fer in the first test, and a fantastic spell of reverse swing and hostility in the 3rd...world class
Morne Morkel (8) 13 wickets for Morkel as well...deserved more, bowled a lot better than figures suggest
Kyle Abbott - 1 game 1 wicket, looked in-effective
Imran Tahir - 1 game , 3 wickets, once again lack on control costs him his place in the side
Simon Harmer - 7 wickets on debut, good effort
WI
Kraigg Brathwaite (5) Other than one century, delivered little else, and needs to realise that he is allowed to leave the ball, not flash at everything
Devon Smith (2) 116 runs in the series at 23...high score of 47...surely there's someone else..
Leon Johnson (6) 168 runs at an average of 33... got starts in all but one innings, including 1 half century, one for the future
Marlon Samuels (9) West Indies player of the series. 268 runs at 53...however his dismissal in the last test kick-started the collapse...
Shiv Chanderpaul (3) Horror show for Shiv...just 91 runs in the series with 50 in his last innings, how much longer can he go on...??
Jerome Blackwood (4) One half century, other than that nothing to really show for his effort..fought hard against Steyn at Cape town when reversing
Denesh Ramdin (3) One half century in 5 innings....un-tidy with the gloves, and his decision making at the toss left a lot to be desired
Jason Holder (4) Tidy with the ball but lacks pace and potency...not a lot to write home with the batting..
Jerome Taylor (2) 3 wickets in 3 games, and was bitterly dissapointing
Sheldon Cottrell 1 game 1 wicket
Sully Benn (4) 6 wickets in the series, looked threatning in the last innings, but lacks real wicket-taking threat on a regular basis
Kemar Roach Unfortunately for Windies injured early
Shannon Gabriel (3) dissapointing
Kenroy Peters (2) Why was he selected...
