just being devil's advocate here but could there be an argument for moving root back to open and getting trott and/or taylor into the test side ?

think its a good indication of what this pitch is like when a guy with a list A average of 4 in 31 matches has hit a 37 ball 50

England have declared. Might have been interesting to see Rashid on a last day pitch, but no indication it has deteriorated.

Piedt, who took eight wickets in Test debut and then mysteriously disappeared, has taken not many, for a lot.

Root hardly convinced as an opener, he has however looked a test class batsman in the middle order. Seems to be a big gamble and a trifle unfair on the lad to move him out of a position he is doing well in to bring someone else in to the side.

Well done trotty for scoring runs.

Hopefully the 2nd test pitch is far better than the first game pitch.

Not sure England lions got anything apart from Plunkett bowling well and Trott not having any problems mentally.

Better than moving Root , I'd have thought. But it might be a bit early to get excited about a return for Trott ... 200 on a road where nearly everyone who batted got fifty plus is a fair way from facing Johnson and Harris at Lord's . Good to see him doing well just the same.
Hope the pitch for the second match is a bit more bowler-friendly.

Alfie

Although I'd like to move on from Trott, It's clear the selectors won't, given he's playing for the lions. If he does come back then the only place which is up for grabs, is the openers spot.

I can't see Trott coming back to the full side.

Agreed. I fancy though that he might be in the selectors' minds as a back up , mainly ; in case none of the younger prospects look like cutting it in the short term. Ultimately it must come down to weight of runs ; here , in West Indies , early season at home... While a born again , solid Trott might appeal as a reassuring presence against Australia , it has to be said he wasn't too reassuring in 2013 , even at home.
Lions captaincy isn't always a guide is it ? I seem to recall senior players who did the job a while back without ever getting into the main squad ; name{s) escape me ...might be dreaming ?
Whatever ; if he's scoring runs he presents as an option , at least.
