The enigma that is Kevin Pietersen

What's buzzing in the world of cricket....

Strauss like many others seems to have not learnt the basic lessons: 1) If you don't give something oxygen it dies. 2) If you're potentially future boss has left some room for reconciliation don't go out of your way to make a case against that.

It is baffling how so many proffesionals can not work out that if they want KP to go away they simply need to stop promoting him.

Not sure it helps his interest in the new manager job. After the last incumbent lost his job, partly over publicly mishandling the issue.

Quite funny really, here is a guy applying for a top job in English cricket, and the day the county season starts all he can say on the matter of cricket is to play round 1546 of "What happens to KP" guessing game.

Maybe an insightful and helpful round up of counties, their chances, some players to watch out for today would have been more fitting?

Or does confirm that sadly having a job at a Broadcaster with the England team means you probably dont know anything about county cricket. After all, once selected for England did Strauss ever play much county cricket again?

Sussex is spot on, this would have been an excellent chance for Strauss to show his knowledge of the English game and that he is has put the KP issue behind him. Sadly his attempt at career suicide will probably be overlooked.

After what Strauss called KP, I suppose his response was pretty predictable.

It's no secret they don't like each other.

Not sure killing off the KP Mania is that simple . SP ...267 pages on this thread would seem to point the other way :)

But I do take your point. Strauss - and others - would be better advised to offer a few more "no comments" to the inevitable media provococations . If just one side were talking , the debate might lose a bit of its interest...

They would be better advised to spend their time discussing the national game, ie the start of the county championship. Its laughable that this is his focus on a day the CC starts.

It highlights how detached the national setup and those around it are to actual Cricket taking place in England

I guess its common sense as well. To say "lets stop talking about subject x" is talking about subject x!!!

An upcoming international tour and county championship start was a good excuse to bury the KP story until he comes out and scores runs...

Approaching a 50, but Surrey are 5 down for just over a 100.... he might not get a chance

Sorry, but it isn't hard to not talk about KP. Writing about him on the first day of the season further raises his profile. If you want to deal with the KP issue you write an article highlighting the other players that might come in to England contention this summer.

I wasn't actually addressing the Strauss article , MS ...to be honest I haven't seen it . I had assumed we were discussing some comments made to a reporter and responded in general terms...my error. And I seem to have got you and SP mixed up too  Sorry about that...
Anyway I have to agree ...Indeed does seem an odd choice of subjects for the start of a season.

Pietersen has come out and said, after his innings yesterday, that he is currently in the best batting form of his life, for heaven's sake man, give it a rest.
