We were in a similar position to Warwickshire in our first match against Sussex but were unable to chase down the target. The boot is on the other foot this time and we have to try and defend a similar target. Whether we do or not will be a season definer.

Vince not having the best start to the season, which is a shame for his international ambitions. Mind, the way he apparently batted against Sussex when our bowlers were running through your middle order leaves a lot to be questioned about his attitude (could say the same about Luke Wright too, although he had the luck to make an impact)

another 50-100 on the board for Hamps and they could put pressure on a pretty undesirable top 6 for Warks. Problem with playing Warks, their lower middle order has a tendency to stick when you don't want it.

That's harsh in my book. Vince's way of batting is to be positive, regardless of situation. It's not uncommon for him to make 80+ scores at a healthy rate, whilst those around him struggle to score 100 between them.

It wont always work, just as it didn't against you guys. But given that we have Adams, Dawson and Smith who can all play the more defensive game (and even Carberry and Ervine can, if required), then I have no issue with always letting Vince (and Wheater) play his natural attacking game.

Set up for a cracking day tomorrow. I made us firm favourites when Warks came out to bat, but they've given themselves a chance with this start. No more than that though.

Few, if any, county batsmen are as good at batting with the lower middle order, and tail, than Ervine. I'm sure it's why he bats 7 these days, even though I'm sure most people would rate his batting above Wheater's (and maybe Dawson's too).

And thankfully, even though he is yet to register a CC 100, Carberry has started this season in supreme touch.

Good to see Berg finally contribute with the bat. Great to see Briggs again showing that he's a more than capable no.9 at county level.

Yes Briggs' batting has certainly come on a great deal in the last two years, if his bowling can make similar advances he could make himself undroppable in this form of the game.

Its getting close to the time where Warwicks will start playing for a draw, maybe there already.

After losing Westwood early in the day, Warks never seemed at all interested in trying to chase down the target. Real shame, for what could have been a great final day. And could come back to haunt them come the end of the season (it's not as if we're going to be a threat to their title chances!).

That said, it also can't be overlooked that we took just five wickets in around 100 fourth innings overs. We knew our attack was pretty impotent, and today has shown it. Hopefully Bird will finally be available for our next game.
