Yes, that is certainly very strange.
At the time when Graves made those comments, no-one envisaged the ECB continuing to make personnel changes they did, least of all Andrew Strauss.
If anything, Graves has been undermined by the establishment before starting his new role.
But he wasn't in a position to make such comments when he did because he hadn't started his new role.
Doesn't really matter, his name was mentioned by Harrison yesterday in line with them unanimously feeling the position was unworkable.
Which still, regardless of his role or it not starting, leaves Graves having offered something that never was on the table.
The question is why did he do this if it was clear when he took up the role his opinion was he wouldn't be selected.
