D/L again showing how crap a system it is. Its pretty embarrassing for a sport that the game is settled by some maths equation that an idiot in a pub could think up only after 9 or 10 pints.

Play till the end... if its not possible to play to the end, then dont have a result, dont create one

Athertn made the very valid point on TV today that in view of the much higher scoring rates nowadays the whole D/L system needs amending. Morgan is saying likewise in the Times. What it clearly doesn't factor in is that batsmen are starting afresh after any break.

It was amended in November. It is now the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern method.

I don't think there is a problem with the D/L method to be honest with you, certainly not in the 50 over format. I know in T20 it can sometimes throw up some "interesting" results, but in 50 overs I think it's fair most of the time. I think the one yesterday was perfectly fair, England at the time were behind the eight-ball, would be stupid to expect a more lenient calculation. 8 down with only a crock and Finn to come.

I haven't seen any of the match highlights yet, but when I checked the scores last night, having 9 an over required increased to 17 an over seemed unduly harsh in what appears to have been a cracking game.

NZ might have got the win, but I think England will take the most heart from the result. Even the reintroduction of Southee into the side hasn't really slowed England's momentum.

Compare that to Gloucs T20 win where a 160 target became a pathetic DL target of 42 in 6 overs with all 10 wickets to play with. Something wrong there, surely?

still...... these are old arguments. Nothing looks likely to change, so I guess all teams just have to get on with it

at least FIFA isn't in charge and so the DL target doesn't have to have the size of a bribe factored into the calculation

Cheers, never been to an ODI before

Went to NZ vs Eng Lions a few years ago, thats the closest I have been to international cricket.

the best ODI I went to was Eng/NZ when KP brought out the switch hit for the first time....... and then the second time a few minutes later. Brought the crowd to it's feet.
I wonder what happened to him.... seems to have disapeared for a bit. Is he injured?
