Dawson is unfortunately yet another example of one of our promising young guys who just hasn't kicked on. He's been in the first team in all formats for the last five (?) years, but I'm struggling to think of any real match winning contributions - maybe others can. It may be harsh, but it feels as if he's been carried in a successful one day team and hidden in midiocracy in the FC side. I'm not holding my breath on a great transformation, which is really sad. Same as Griff.

Yeah, if anything it's his limited overs bowling - particularly in t20 - that stands out the most.

He made a handful of big scores in the Championship, and was the guy to finally give McKenzie a partner in that brilliant t20 QF run chase away to Notts in 2012 (when Maxwell got out pretty much first ball in that run chase, to leave us five down I think, it all looked over for us). But that's it really.

Vince doesn't even have the excuse of Briggs being expensive. Fair enough not to give Smith a fourth over I guess, given he had 0-30 off 3. But Briggs had 2-13 off his 3. Superb figures. And yet for some shocking reason Bird got a 3rd over instead. Hogan aside (who is an excellent bowler), Glamorgan bowled just two overs of non-spin. Less than what Bird bowled, let alone Wood, Arafat and Berg as well.

Wood getting the last over instead of Arafat was also quite surprising, but nothing compared to not bowling Briggs out.

Smith yet again showing that he's just in the team for his bowling, and shouldn't really be batting above 8 in t20. We just have not got a finisher. Meschede against us today, Blake (twice) and RTD previously. Only when we still have the top five at the crease (Ervine, Shah, Vince) do we manage to take advantage of those final five overs like other sides do. We were excellently placed after 10 overs, and even the position we were in after 15 overs should have been a winnable one. Sussex and Kent both came here and won from similar positions, needing that 12 - 15 an over for the last 5.

For the sake of trying to take something positive though I think Birds catch was 2nd to Smiths last home game that I've seen this season, Smith also nearly took another brilliant one on the boundary this time plucking it out of nowhere, shame it went for 6 though!

I personally think once Vince and Carberry have got out, with Ervine out the side, our batting has pretty much had it. We really are devoid of confidence in every format and can't see how we're going to win a game of any kind.

Radio Solent are saying that the outcome of our ECB suspended penalty appeal is that the ECB have said we now need to commit TWO further offences in the next 12 months for the penalty to apply. So an extra life line for us. Originally it was ONE further offence.

I'm still not quite sure what the penalty is, should we commit these further offences. Everything I have read says a deduction of 16 pts (CC), 2 pts (one-day), 2 pts (t20). However some outlets use the word "or" whilst others use the word "and". So I have no idea if it would be all three at once, or just one of three deductions (presumably based on whatever competition the final discretion comes in). Even the ECB themselves use "or" in one article, and "and" in another.

EDIT: Actually, reading one of the ECB articles again, it's looks like they're effectively three separate suspended penalties. So one more offence (now increased to two) in the CC is a 16 pt deduction. One more offence (now increased to two) in the t20 is a 2 pt deduction etc.

When we are trailing seventh place by too many points it would be a sensible move for someone to tell both umpires to fvck off, and get the penalties imposed when they mean nothing. Don't fancy commencing next season in division two with this still hanging over us.

I think penalties are imposed in the following season in any event.

To be honest there is very little fight in the team right now so I doubt they'll be any more indiscretions this season.
