I think England need to make their call right now on Broad in ODI cricket going forward, if he is not in the squad for this series he won't be again in all likelihood.

Broad and Anderson have over 400 ODI wickets between them, both average under 30 with the white ball and go at around 5 runs an over. Yet neither is likely to have much of an ODI career from here on out.

Agree strongly with Yorker that England need to decide whether or not Broad has a long term future in the ODI side. With his injury record is he going to be playing ODI cricket come the next World Cup? If the view is unlikely, then he needs to be left to play Test cricket.

broad had a good ODI record now it is average and getting worse

over the last 3 years his wickets are coming at 41.2 with an ER of 5.6, so he should be knowhere near the ODI team

as his test bowling has got better his ODI bowling has got worse

Not at all touting for Broad to return. I hope he doesn't. But I think he's nearer his best form than he has been for a while, and I wondered if that might make England want to give him another chance. His recent record doesn't really support his return, but I'm not sure he's always been that fit.

I think the fact we leave for the UAE within a couple of days of the end of this ODi series should preclude broad from playing

if there was the normal 6 weeks or so between the end of the home summer and the winter tour they might have been more tempted

Trouble with resting players is that the ECB pretty much committed to prioritising ODIs after the WC. Which means they are committed to prioritise everything. But arguably, England should just go ahead with the younger players anyway. And against NZ, apparently Bayliss asked for eleven good fielders, which doesn't really include Broad.

Broad is at his best when he's bowling top of off on a 4th stump line, is there an argument to say that, like Cook, his form is actually better when he's not having to improvise in pyjama cricket?
