the thing with bopara for me AC is what we get from him as a bowler should be a bonus on top of his batting and not the primary reason for picking him which is the situation he seems to have ended up in

In short, Bell was "sacked" from the ODi team (no word on whether phrase applies to Broad, Anderson and Bopara), his treatment has been" scandalous", England aren't picking the young guys on merit, and we shouldn't try new players because they might not be as good as those they are replacing.

I don't think the team playing now would be the eleven you'd put out in Asia. And I'm not sure Ravi was a failure in T20I. I certainly don't want him back in 50 overs.

His batting strike rate was under a run a ball for most of his career. Got it above 100 in his last few games. Same with Patel. For a batsman it has got to be 120 minimum

I'd be surprised if many other batters were doing better for England in Asia in that time than Samit who was coming in after some terrible collapses, in T20 and 50 over. Bopara, I'm more looking for a bowler. I wouldn't pick him primarily as a batter. As I said, pick other options. But I want to get as far away as possible from a phalanx of fast medium. A lesson should be taken from the last WCT20 in BD, and other contests in Asia.

Patel did have valid reasons for some of his slower innings. Bopara as a top order batsman for most of his T20 career hasnt had to do much firefighting, he's just been producing lousy innings.

im gonna wait until i see rashid bowl on tracks that actually turn to judge him, i just hope they are working hard with him on getting him to bowl a little quicker

bopara used to take 20 balls to get in then get out to his first attacking shot

I suppose we're looking for someone to bowl in the second half of the innings, like TaHIR, WITH THE ORTHODOX SPINNERS MORE IN OVERS 1-1O. If Rashid doesn't get help from the pitch, he could be a non starter, but maybe he'll work on Asian pitches. He bowls both sides of the hand.I guess we'll learn something in UAE.

Interesting series starting today. The NZ series will be hard to follow - I don't expect the run fest this time , particularly with a decent Aussie attack.

No doubt the Ageas will put on another good show - weather permitting.

Probably our best hitter of spin bowling so 5 is made for him

but people will argue that buttler should be top 5 in ODis , and that if you bat stokes lower than 5 he is being wasted , so there isn't an obvious answer , in a way its a good problem to have as long as the players themselves buy into it
