I can't help feeling that UEFA could take a leaf out of the book of Concacaf when it comes to World Cup qualifying....
In Concacaf, there are a number of teams who are as weak as San Marino. These 14 teams playoff with each other to produce seven teams for a second round, where another playoff is held with another seven teams, who had received a bye, on the basis of their ranking. In the end, only two of the 14 teams made it through to the third round. This competitive playoff element eliminated farcical matches, such as the one we're watching now, on a pitch that really is sub-standard.
Rooney scores a penalty to equal Charlton's record....
I really don't see how this match benefits anyone.
Nobody has a stance quite like the mighty Shivnarine....
