Test and ODI don't always mesh - but he hasn't done his chances any harm. Suppose Taylor has pushed his claims a bit too...

The main worry about picking him for tests was his lack of control and bowling too slow

He appears to have fixed those issues and there really is nobody else to pick

we cant go into the tests in the UAE with ali as the only spinner and as you say there isn't really anyone else in the frame

I cant see any point going back to tredwell for example and having 2 off-spinners and root as a 3rd as backup

Rashid should be well up on the list of players going, we need to take a second spinners, and if its not him then they are picking essentially blind

There have been no indications that anyone else is in the frame, certainly since Bayliss and Farbrace got together.

the left arm variation should help as plunkett, finn and woakes are all very similar

though we may miss woakes' death bowling

Pat Cummins will be the most experienced pace bowler with only 16 caps.

There is no reason why England should not win this match. I'm not even sure that Australia have taken this series seriously considering the players they have rested. But building for the next world cup so good to see

No excuses this is the most in experienced Australian ODI team for years. If England loose then there is no hope for them.

Sure the new players will want to prove themselves though. And Bailey has not been playing tests, actually most of the team has not been playing tests. Just Smith it would seem, and the occasional one from the younger Marsh.

Fair enough. Tiredness is the reason suggested for resting Mitch2. But yes, a lot of these have been playing county cricket. Burns, Maxwell, Handscomb Finch, Hastings. I think Bailey may have played T20.

I think finn is the only player in either team outside of the captains that has played much more than 30 ODIs

That sounds right rich. I can't believe the Aussies will want to go home empty-handed either - they'll be up for this with players wanting to make an impression.

A lot of places still up for grabs in the England camp too - it ought to be a humdinger.

If Starc is rested, we'll have only 2 specialist seamers and there are only four specialist batsmen. Something horriby wrong with the team balance here.
