Surprised by how well Morgan has done this summer, but have to accept he's been pretty key.

Can't really be that surprised, he's been class for England at the shorter forms of the game for many years now.

In the two years leading to this summer, he averaged 25 against top eight sides at a SR of 81. Before that it was 40 at a SR of 91. He was arguably England's best ever ODI bat, but hadn'tbeen in that class for a long time. His leg side game had left him relatively shotless to sides who just slanted the ball across him. He still edges a lot of offstump balls through the slips. It took about fifty games for me to feel he definitively wasn't the player he was, so it takes more than a summer to flip flop on that conclusion. He's had little pockets of form over the generally poor two years. So we'll see. I thought he should have been moved on after the WC though.

I must admit I hadn't looked at his stats I was just going with my feeling for the way he has played for England over the years in the shorter form.

I have been a big fan of his from the start so have probably got on the Rose tinted specs. Really thought he had what it takes to make it at test match level as well but I guess that opportunity has well and truly passed him by.

If you read Law 19 through it does not say anything about re establishing yourself in the field of play. In fact it illustrates pretty exactly what happened with the Maxwell catch yesterday therefore confirming it was legal.

I don't read them either as a rule but thought it might be interesting to see whether there was a definitive answer in this case.

I've not read Law19 either. However, the key point is how laws are interpreted - that applies to every person who is charged with that responsibility - whether it be an umpire, referee, judge etc.

I'm not entirely convinced that umpires, especially as they are on a time frame, know every rule to the letter to enable them to make a correct judgement in all cases. That's probably humanly impossible - but they are no doubt well schooled in the fundamentals.

I think Morgan is probably benefiting the most of any player from the change of attitude towards ODI cricket. For much of his career he's been saddled behind a top order which could not keep up with the increasing run rates of modern ODI cricket then expected to perform magic to get England over the line. Yes a young team will not come off every time but they are unlikely to die wondering either.

cant understand why finn isn't back when he was only meant to have been rested for the last game

plunkett was very expensive last couple of games and only really rescued his stats with late wickets in the first game we won after the game was over
