Ah dammit, Khawaja's gone and Australia declare. Here I was expecting all kinds of run records to be smashed.

3 150+ partnerships in the same innings must be a rare feat, especially in the first four partnerships, but I can't work out how to make statsguru tell me how rare.

When ever I hear comments about how flat the Gabba wicket is it reminds me of this game:

Its got to be something to do with the bounce, and teams getting carried away with it. The outfield is always quick, but the Gabba offers plenty to bowlers. This was pretty much Warnes favorite ground, though he like bowling on pitches with bounce

The Australian bats love bouncy pitches, and international bowlers always seem to bowl too short on them. NZ maybe lacking a genuine quick bowler that can make the most on a pitch like this. The 2 Mitchs have taken 2 wickets each, and they are both quicker than what NZ has to offer.

This is all pretty telling for New Zealand; could end up seeing the follow on.

I wonder if the Kiwis are guilty of thinking that an Aussie batting line up that is still relatively green would be easier to blow away than they have proved.

The New Zealand bowlers were always going to struggle out here but they have really been shown up. Southee hasn't been playing well for some time and looks poor here. Boult is still carrying that injury and is being tentative.

My memory isn't that good I am afraid. But the Gabba gets the same comments almost every year. For a road it has a pretty good record of results. It and the WACA have had their own distinctive qualities for many years. The loss of the WACA and the preponderance of drop in pitches is robbing the country of its many varied pitches. Hopefully the Gabba will keep going for years yet, and the regular complaints of it being a road (at least for the first day and a half) will continue.
