Cook needs a big knock, Hales needs a knock of some description, Compton and Taylor need that big one under their belts before the home summer.

Matt Prior was hardly a competent keeper at the start of his England career, did alright in the end and I am sure Jonny will do the same.

Was Prior an experienced keeper then though (he used to share with Ambrose at Sussex)? Bairstow is an experienced keeper already.

Keeping at altitude could well be a factor, and might improve with experience.

Wouldn't say Bairstow is an experienced keeper when he was utilised as a specialist batsman/drinks carrier under the Flower era. Even when Bairstow got recalled last year, Buttler was the keeper until midway through the Australia ODIs.

Looks like England are going to have to bat 4ish sessions on a wearing pitch to save the match.

If Abbott is injured this may be possible, given that the spinner isn't that great, but it will require considerably more application than England have shown in saving matches in 2015.

I don't know if bowling them out too quickly will be a good thing or a bad one?

What's South Africa's goal in the second innings? To declare at 270 for something an hour after tea?

If they get to 270. They have a 240 run lead now, so another 100 should do it.

That's Amla's half-century...his batting has returned to its former reliability, now that he's shed the burden of captaincy.
