World T20 Super 10 Group 2, India, Pak, Oz, NZ, Bang

This squad makes no sense at all. No Bailey, Boyce, Lyon, Lynn, Wade...

My thoughts on the Oz squad; well, I'm still thinking about it. It seems to me that the selectors are still clueless about this format. How Chris Lynn has missed out truly amazes me. Ok, he didn't set the world on fire against India recently, but surely his Big Bash form still should have seen him included in a 15 man squad. The Peter Nevill selection is a bit iffy. Sure, his glovework is top notch, and he can bat, but where are his numbers in this format? I can think of a few others who might feel peeved that they've been left out.

We seem to be all rounder heavy, and clearly that didn't work against India. Out of Twatto, Mitch Marsh, and James "the finisher" Faulkner, one of those should have been left out. I guess with Twatto likely to break down any minute now, the selectors have included three all-rounders to cover that inevitability. And Glenn Maxwell counts as an all-rounder too.

There's also the question of Aaron Finch's fitness, and Nathan Coulter-Nile for that matter. And why is Ashton Agar in there? He only played a handful of games for the Scorchers this year. I do like the kid, don't get me wrong. He should consider himself very lucky. Adam Zampa I can live with, but I'd rather have gone for Nathan Lyon.

Usman Khawaja seems to be the man of the moment, and will most likely come in at 3, with Smith at 4, then Twatto and the Big No Show.

This is a tough group and the selectors are really under the kosh in this one. I can see us finishing dead last in this. Too much inexperience at international level in the format. We're really missing Mitchell Starc, and to a lesser extent, Pat Cummins.

International T20 record is hardly a great yardstick for selection given how few and far they are between. He has been an utter disaster in the IPL for the last 5 years (in conditions where this tournament will be played) against considerably worse bowling.

Looking into Smith's T20I batting stats is frankly ridiculous. Most of those were in 2010 when he was a spinning Allrounder batting at 8. He scored 90 off his 50 odd balls and 21 off 12 balls in his most recent T20I innings. Warner has been the leading run scorer over the last 2 seasons and both of then are proven performers in other formats. There is really no comparison.

fail to see how IPL form has any bearing at all, surely him showing he can do it in a previous ICC t20 competition in asia is much more relevant (scoring two 50s in 4 games in bangladesh 2014) also in his only t20 international in india he scored 89

and who would you pick ahead of him?

I agree. I'm far from a fan of Finch but it's ridiculous that Shanky is treating him as if he's been a complete failure. He has the best T20I record in the world when you consider he averages over 40 with a strike rate over 150.
