There is a middle ground, but as my OP stated, I think this is too short.

Can't really have more than one match though unless only one game is on TV. At least with T20, you can have 2/3 in a day.

Middle order needs some grit. Morgan must be on borrowed time and Stokes needs a rest. Bairstow and Taylor could replace.

In the context of the game I am just glad England won, to expect Afghanistan to be dismissed for a two figure score with our suspect bowling attack is asking too much.

Whoever came up with England's batting order should be sacked on the spot. Sending in Ben Stokes (who bats one way) at 5 to rebuild an innings, what was that all about? and Chris Jordan at 8 above Plunkett, Rashid and Willey when those three are miles more prolific with the bat?!

1 day game and 1 day-night game.

Should be able to organise the schedule to have a less popular game on the same day as one with two big hitters...

Will Topley join the other left armer Gurney who can't bat, can't field, so goodbye. Gurney's economy was 6.87 though compared to Topley's 10.07.
I expect Topley will miss out on the ODIs as well because Woakes, Wood and Finn will be back.

Our openers need to give a good start which has been missing so far in this tournament. Hopefully Dhoni will opt to bowl first yet again if he wins toss. Dew needs to be avoided.
