Cook knows when to play the pull shot and not waft his bat for the sake of it.

Tough place for ECB this.
Since Cook does make some valid points, but at the same time ECB does need the regulation to cover insurance plus loads of legal issues
if ECB back down now and some player gets injured or worse, quite possible insurance won't pay out and they blame it on ECB/ICC for not using the best possible equipment to protect players and top of that family of players affected or players them selves can sue ECB.

Anyway surprised Cook not using it in the nets and in games, will be good for him to get use to it before the test series against Sri lanka and pakistan where he may have to wear the new helmets.

Main issue is that Cook is using a very old helmet, he still using an helmet from 2012, They probably don't even make that model now.
The newer helmets don't have the flexibility of the grill which Cook likes.

Not sure that works. You don't have wear a helmet at all after the age of 16, and that's just in the uk. Cook can walk out without a helmet at all if he wants.

http://www.ecb.co.uk/information/ecb-an ... orshelmets
it is actually under 18.

he probably could but then ECB/Insurance will probably stop insuring Cook if he doesn't wear helmets or not the correct one.

Anyway thought wearing helmets to pace men is compulsory.

did some research and it is compulsory.
Any player who does not wear what the ECB calls "compliant protective headgear" will not be permitted to play.

The ECB is also recommending that all recreational cricketers wear helmets which meet the latest British safety standard from next season, although it has retreated from trying to make this compulsory.

it is not compulsary to have the new helmets but it is compulsary to wear a helmet.

Instead, as the outgoing chief executive of the PCA Angus Porter said, the hope is that professional cricketers will lead by example.

I hope no serious damage happens to anyone using an old helmet.

Awkward moment is that ECB was hoping Cook and the english team will sell and promote the new helmets.

Compton attacking the rules.

No idea why players are complaining considering the old helmets had a pretty major flaw.
Kieswetter, Broad etc all got injured because of the flaw.

I can understand that WHS/OH&S laws would be different in UK than Aus, but surely when Cook is playing as an employee of the ECB he is obliged to wear PPE as supplied - just the same as ECB are obliged to provide all necessary PPEs to their employees, under WHS laws?

Surely the laws of the land overrule laws/rules of any game or any persons proclivities.
Maybe

I caught the tail end of a programme about villages on the box the other night.

It was good to learn that in these days of DRS, Hotspot and Snicko, firms like Gray Nicholls are still making hand made bats in the same way as they were in the 1930s. Apparently in Robertsbridge they grow all the willow for bats made around the world.

Great stuff.

Test purist will be cringing now that ECB will be promoting all bilateral point system this summer.
Good decision.

I feel a bit unstimulated by the idea of having a points system including all the formats for this summer's tours. I'm not sure anyone will be interested by it, or if it will make the games any more interesting. Potentially, it could just generate a lot of dead rubbers. A whole series could be dead before it's even started.

meant to be a question mark.

Actually 50-50 on this.
Test cricket needs fixing but this idea could potentially kill test cricket.

What's the situation with Duncan Fletcher and India, I've not seen him at games and not head he's left his job.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.
