I haven't taken much notice of this story till now and it really shows that non-cricketers have the hands on the tiller and around the throat of tradition and history. Anything goes where money's concerned.

the reason why they did it is fine.
just the idea is awful.
lets not kid ourselves test cricket is dying and is close to death it needs regenerating.

needs proper context and not a fake point system though.

The comment section funny considering most people think Test cricket is healthy in England lol.
The reason ECB did the idea in the first place was that no one wanted to watch cricket this year lol.

How is this ridiculous idea going to attract more followers to the game, more likely just piss off the die hards even more.

It really got me hooked onto the Women's Ashes!

When you thought the PCB couldn't get any crazier, Pakistan appoint Mickey Arthur as coach.

Charlotte Edwards has retired at 36, after 20 years as an England player. So pretty much there throughout the emergence of the women's game. She averages 44 in Tests, 38 in ODIs and 33 in T20s. She has been England captain since 2006.

Very influential cricketer for the modern women's game, and pivotal in bring women's cricket out of the shadows. Well done for her career

Been around as long as I have known anything about women's international cricket. I would think that her averages in all three formats rates highly in comparison to her peers?
Maybe

Hard to tell with tests, as many women in the game have played less than 10 tests, no one has really played more than 20. A lot of women have huge averages just before Lottie started, simply because a quality player in the 70-90s would be playing against some utter dross in a very unprofessional system. The best in this era score less I believe

In limited overs cricket, there are better players in ODI, a quite a handful who average 10-15 more than here but without the longevity of career that Edwards maintained. In T20 she was certainly up there with the best, despite only playing the majority of matches well past her peak.

I'm listening to her inteview and I believe I head her say she wanted to continue playing but the Coach said she would not be guaranteed a place so she retired. I was in the kitchen so I may have misheard but I don't think so.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Its been reported that way. The team wanted to move on from her to the next world cup, so she got dropped.

Where are they moving to I wonder, some of the batting from others hasn't been so promising. Pretty harsh after 20 years and a brilliant career for England.

Might sound like a bit of a strange one, but it occurred to me that Edwards looks much older than her 35 years.

I tested this by sending a picture to two colleagues, and the lowest guess was 47..... highest was 61!!!

All that exposure to the elements. Cricketers usually look pretty weather beaten when they retire. Like ships crew.
