What gets me is, we have taken Vardy, Kane, Sturridge, and Rashford, but we only play one up front. None of those can really do the job out wide.

Rashford has gone for experience which makes sense. 4 strikers is not to much, and im guessing Roy always picked Rooney to play in the midfield. So maybe Wiltshire was not so much of a risk?

But we're playing with two wide me up front. If we were playing two up front then fair enough. Plus Rooney is an option up front, with Ali in behind. I don't like Sterling but he's almost guaranteed a place with this formation.

True, Sturridge has played out on the left under Rodgers, though he did not like it to much.

I thought Sterling had a good first half against Russia. His speed and direct running was effective. His final ball was not though. I wonder what was said to him in the English camp this week. Run, but when near goal, give the ball to someone else?

I would have taken Townsend, admittedly he only came into form in the latter part of the season but generally performs well for England.

Sterling clearly has no confidence at the moment. I thought in the last two games he has played well at times, got the assist against Portugal that created England pretty much only chance, and he put in a very good ball for I think Kane in the Russia game.

But with space on the counter he looked far too ponderous against Russia. Id personally make no changes to the starting line up, but if Sterling plays like that again, Roy needs to haul him off earlier.

Well the Russia goal came from a corner where Milner was about 5 yards away from the Russian right winger, and ended up being in a lousy position to deal with it and having to give away the corner.

He then got roased by the Russian midfielder when any half decent player just stands him up and stops the cross coming in.

Im with you on Milner, just dont see what he offers this team. Crap defensively, far too slow to dribble, not great in tight spaces, too ponderous with his passing.

I'm surprised more hasn't been made of his culpability in the Russian goal on Saturday. He seems to fly under the radar most of the time and his mistakes and general non contribution in a game go unnoticed.

Indeed. As I said, had he been aware of the fact his winger had slipped him, he heads that ball out 45 yards from goal for a throw in and Russia probably dont score. But most people dont see that as important before the goal goes in, and then say he has done well to get out quickly. Not sure you can say that, he was beaten all heads up by a pretty easy dribble that just knocked the ball past him.
