At the end of the day though football is about scoring goals. We have had plenty of possession but struggle to get the ball in the net. It's a worry that we do the same in the last 16 and end up losing on a penalty shootout.

I guess the point is that you dont rest 6 players when the group is still live and has connotations that affect your ability to go far in the tournament. Rather than a potential game against Albania, England may now get Portugal/France/Germany and Spain in the knockouts should results go as you expect them. Ie, they arent going to win.

Generally though, Roy has done a good job as England manager and the team are playing well.

England could suit a team coming at them more. I do think its under-rated at how impossible it is to break down a team like last night, who by the end had 6 defenders on the pitch. They had no interest in scoring.

This is true, but chances have been created. Players just seem to kick the ball at the keeper or miss sitters.

England are creating chances, players are just not putting them away.

They talk about 6 changes but it was only 4 from the team that started the second half against Wales.

Clyne and Bertrand were worthy replacements for Walker and Rose. The only let downs were Henderson and Wilshere, but at least he's probably learnt that Wilshere is not fit enough for this tournament, and Rooney will start all our remaining games.

I don't really care who plays as long as it isn't Milner.

I was disappointed Rashford didn't play any part yesterday.

I can't see him playing in the next game unless a serious injury crisis occurs.

Only half chances though, with so many opposition players in between the goal and the player with the ball it is no surprised the number of blocks has been off the scale. We haven't had much go for us in the regard, may be we'll get a deflected goal or two in the knockout stages when it really matters.

I thought Bertrand was poor, didnt get forward as Rose would and was probably lucky to stay on the field with an arm to the face of the Slovakia player. At one stage he got booked after being utterly done. Clyne was much better and got forward.

Henderson was utterly useless. Like utterly, UTTERLY useless.

Bertrand did OK but then Danny Rose has done OK.

Walker has done well and I thought Clyne did well last night.

I was comparing like for like with the full backs, but agree Henderson does not deserve his place. I'm beginning to think he should have taken Townsend.

I didn't think it seemed like a good idea ahead of the game, but it's hard to say that it failed, given it produced a similar performance as the other games. There was only Walker can be said to have been missed with much certainty, and his replacement was one of England's better players.

That's an overstatement. I mean, it's probably meant to be exaggerated, but even so, he was fairly competent, though a limited player without a great deal of vision or flair. I thought this was an England side that was supposed to struggle to get out of their group? Expectation now seems to be greater than that.

I wonder what Roy's team will be for next Monday?

Rooney, Walker, Rose, and Alli will return, I expect.

I didnt use profanities, so if anything it was an under statement. He was useless, he did nothing of use.

Who would we prefer in the last 16?

Portugal are probably the team we'd least like to play.

Iceland - I'd have them and their luck might run out by then.

Austria - not the team they used to be. Probably won't get through.

Hungary - Always dark horses. Can be tricky on their day.

Rooney will probably play up front as central striker, the way things have been messed around with.

None of the strikers used so far can be said to have had stunning tournaments.

Our hopes of playing with pace utilizing the likes of Sterling, Alli and Vardy has pretty much failed so far.
