All bowlers will take a slightly different time to bowl an over, a bad over where there are fours or even worse, sixes, will take longer than an over that is blocked out. The DRS can take 20 seconds or ten minutes. Those would just be the blatantly obvious issues, not even getting into what you do about when players have an issue with conditions or when a spectator gets in front of the sight screen or other such issues.

As far as running on the pitch goes, it's a lot like no balls. It's not something you are looking for unless it's blatant, but once you spot it then you're going to be paying attention to it and it will be brought up for a bowler more often, not probably helped by Jimmy's attitude yesterday.

Imho the 30 minutes extra time should cover all those.
if you can't bowl 90 overs in 6 and half hours then you are really slow.
England/pakistan would have bowled 90 overs in 7 hours and a bit today and ICC somehow found it to be ok.

personally I would change the rules that if you haven't bowled the overs after the extra 30 minutes then you are fined and get the warning with the next one being the suspension.
either that or they play till 90 overs are bowled till conditions allow it.
this half arse attidute basically means players/umpires are strolling and really slowing the game down in the middle.
players don't really care either since what ever happens they would be ok in the over rates stuff.
England would have bowled 10 overs an hour for 2 hours and would be found to be ok in this test match which is just crazy.

if you exclude the extra 30 minutes then England were found to be about 1hr 10 mins short in the overs which is crazy.

Well, given that we've seen that this doesn't happen and even with half an hour sides around the world are not getting 90 overs in just throwing in an arbitrary rule won't change anything, as noted above there are a host of reasons why time can be completely legitimately lost.

I wonder if this came in, if you'd be happy with Cook and Hales throwing down 10 overs with the entire fielding side on the boundary just to get through the overs? That would be great to watch.

Just thinking about it, 10 overs an hour is a ball every minute, which from a pace heavy team, doesn't seem unreasonable.

Bruv are you seriously ok I think you need to get checked up if you think bowling 10 overs an hour is ok.

It is fact overrates are getting slower and reckon a lot of it is due to action not being taken.

10 overs an hour is disgraceful, no matter who's bowling.

County teams manage 16 overs an hour without hardly any spin.

Anyway quite confused to why hales and cook would be bowling, tbh I am actually quite confused to why you think the overrates are ok especially for someone that seen cricket in the old days.

Well, if you actually stop and think about it; The bowler walking all the way to the top of their run up, running in, delivering the ball, the batsmen playing their shot, the ball being fielded and being thrown back to the bowler is quite the set of actions to under take. Throw in all of the fielders changing positions at the end of every over and any change that need to happen when the batsmen on strike changes, not even considering any on the fly field changes and conversations, then a ball a minute doesn't seem massively slow all of a sudden.

Allowing time for the delays mentioned is why only 15 overs an hour are expected in the first place. To then use these delays to excuse the players is slack. In my view, it's the over rate that sets the tempo of the game, and cricket immediately becomes less interesting as it slows down. Fifteen overs an hour isn't a lot to ask or expect, especially as we are also promised it.

Exactly today overrate wasn't really defendable either was a clear sign both team were slowing down in the middle session.
Looks like Pakistan just wanted to bat overs and time and England were basically happy to go along with it, actually felt for a while if the herath/Mathews partnership was going to happen since England basically stopped trying for a while and not sure what Pakistan were doing either.

Really think 13-14 overs an hour is ok since that does usually mean all 90 or 89 overs bowled in a day's play, so the players have enough leeway.
Today was taking it to another level not sure anyone will know but reckon today might be the slowest over rates recorded and must be up there.

How often have we seen a side bowl a full 90 overs in a day with no added time?

If it's not happening then I think there needs to be a revaluation of how much cricket is expected in a day. It's a fairly key principle in how laws work.

Tbh in wi, Asia they mostly bowl the overs in time and teams with 2 spinners do also.

Sa, aus generally bowl the 90 overs using the extra time but it isn't tight like England do.
Actually thinking about it cricket tends to be very slow in England, even overseas teams are quite slow in England.

To answer your question would say 60-70% of the time.
And vast majority use about 15 mins or less of the extra time.

Think teams have bowled 93 to 94 overs in India, Sri Lanka, uAe in recent time, India in particular are really quick because of jadeja he can bowl an over in a minute and he speed through overs in India.
