The tournament shifted over the weekend to Florida, where the crowds were very good...much better than the three men and a dog currently turning up to watch Test cricket at Sabina Park!
Most of the fans are Caribbean ex-patriots, but there are also quite a few Subcontinent fans there too, and what looks like white Americans as well. My Trinidadian brethren who lives in Miami tried to get tickets, but they were sold out!
:o
On Thursday, Guyana convincingly beat Barbados by six wickets with more than an over to spare. Pacers Rayad Emrit and Sohail Tanvir took two wickets each to restrict Barbados to 142-7, for whom Shoaib Malik hit 55 not out from 44 balls, and David Wiese chipped in with 40. Openers Dwayne Smith and Nick Maddinson then hit round 50s to set the platform for an easy win for Guyana. Medium pacer Raymon Reifer was the most successful bowler for Barbados, taking 2-22.

In a pre-match interview, Andre Russell said it's okay playing for the West Indies, but playing for the Jamaica Tallawah is great, simply because he's playing for his country. Jamaica is a country...the West Indies are not.

On Saturday, St Lucia crushed Jamaica by 63 runs. Andre Fletcher hit 74 not out from just 49 balls, and he was assisted by top order knocks from Johnson Charles (59 from 37) and Shane Watson (43 from 20) as St Lucia rattled up 206-3. Pacer Kesrick Williams took two wickets for Jamaica. Pacers Delorn Johnson (3-30) and Jerome Taylor (2-34) then restricted Jamaica to 143-8, Chadwick Walton topscoring with a run-a-ball 54.

On Saturday, Guyana eliminated Barbados from the CPL by beating them by six wickets with three balls remaining. Kieron Pollard made 47 from 36 balls, and there were 30s from Shoaib Malik and American Steven Taylor, as Barbados posted 158-6. Sohail Tanvir took two wickets for Guyana. Jason Mohammed and Chris Lynn then hit 57s to guide Guyana to victory. Medium pacer Raymon Reifer took two wickets.

It is no surprise that the two teams with the least amount of national representation failed to advance. As Russell said above, players get extra impetus from playing for their country, and Russell's country is Jamaica, not the West Indies. The only Bajan player who seemed to play with any passion on Saturday was unsurprisingly Reifer. The four teams in the playoffs built their team around a group of locals.

Jamaica - Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Chadwick Walton, Rovman Powell

St Lucia - Darren Sammy, Johnson Charles, Andre Fletcher

Trinidad - Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, Denesh Ramdin, Kevon Cooper

The Guyanese players are not key to their team, but they provide the support work. They are players such as Permaul, Bramble, Barnwell and Jacobs. Next season, Barbados would be well-advised to keep Reifer, and to bring back players such as Dwayne Smith and Jonathan Carter.
