Well in the last 5-10 yrs more targets of 300 have been chase and it has been easy to score 4 runs a day in most test days so is not that difficult as it is claim it is difficult to chase it if the pitch is difficult to bat on.

Might be wrong but india were close to chasing 400 or high 300 in adelaide god knows how their lost the game though.
any good batting deck on day 5 and chasing 300 is risky business now because of T20.

True enough . To be honest I don't disagree that the declaration was a sound one . I think they'd have wanted to be 350 at least ahead to have declared overnight. But I think - without checking - that most of those big chases have been made with oodles of time left...even 300 is challenging in one day.

true not many test have had the 300 in a day type chases but when they have been games have gotten really tight or close.
Australia nearly lost
SA nearly lost
India nearly won in Adelaide
many other examples.
really I wouldn't declare needing 300 to win to much at stake and little to gain.
India ridiculously didnt win in wi 5 yrs ago they need 120 to win in 30 overs and didn't go for it.

england nearly chased 280 odd against SA in 2012 at lords.
