England score 300 in a day against India. The markets will go into meltdown.

England recover from 3 down yet again. I did think India might grab a couple more once Root went, but thankfully not.

311/4 I'll take that for the first day.

Unusually - very unusually - more than ninety overs in the day

Very good batting from Root and Moeen. Will want to go on with it tomorrow , of course . But the start to the series that England needed.

Maybe England can hold on to a draw here and avert the whitewash. They need Stokes to knuckle down and bat for time.

Should be looking to win. Get 500 and put the pressure on. Easy said of course.

Mo batting in the top six has paid off. Not something I expected.

Maybe not enough bounce to test him against the short ball. Good effort nonetheless.

Wonder if he'll stay there next summer, when England revert to five bowlers.

Must admit that is the negative thinking I have adopted prior to the start of this series.

Looks like Shami is injured. Big loss for India if he's out of the innings.

Haven't seen the game today, but a few things :)

A great start to the series for England, perfect day, win the toss and go big

Cook - got a start, but hasn;t kicked on, at least he finally won a toss
Hameed - Promising start for the youngster, more runs in one innings than Ballance could manage in 4, really hope Hammed does well
Root- Has a great stat where he averages 120 at the start of a test series..he's the man you go too to set the tone, and once again plays well
Duckett - Im worried about him..clearly has the talent but once again gets a quick 15 or so and fails...needs some runs soon..
Moeen - Been a revelation since moving up to 5...showing his class and should go onto make a well deserved 100 tomorrow...can he double up?

I was seeking out the positives. Negative thinking gives India a big first innings lead on a flat track, and England struggling to hold on batting second on a broken pitch.
