Speaking to some indian fans they think the last time mohali helped the pace men was in 2001.
Think mohali slow and dry now and did turn the most against SA last year.
think English journo are hoping mohali plays like it does in the 1990s and ranji games with Kumble and Kohli basically saying they want the pitches to be natural and they backing india to beat england on good decks and not over the top spin or doctored pitches.
Although that not to say the pitch will be totally flat, suspect the pitch would have enough spin and variable bounce on day 1 so the bowlers got something to work with.
if Ashwin doesn't take any wicket on first innings or the pace men struggling you suspect kohli/kumble would have words and most likely the tv men as well like they did after Rajkot.
Not sure the Mohali deck will be anything like the english journo expected, not sure it has the pace and bounce broad will like or the grass to encourage seam movement that the ranji pitches have to suit Sandeep sharma and punjab quality pace attack.
punjab probably one of the states that produces good fast bowlers and the pitches are made for them, apart from Harby they don't really have much spinners.
with mohali being played in the north, if the deck does have grass it does behave bit like an english wicket, generally the north is known for green tops, the south for Rank turners and Gujarat, Nagpur etc for batting decks although they are exception to the rule.
Also doubt they be watering the ground in Mohali or even leaving grass on the deck, I be very surprised if the pitch suits england although if they leaving the pitches to nature and how it normally plays mohali could be a draw since it isn't known for Turning.
I be honest I have no idea how Mohali will be played and unless the groundsman does something it might be a dull draw since the pace of the wicket very slow and it hardly bounces now and I highly doubt they would make it suit England either.
only WI have won on this ground and that was 1994
india won 6 times and 5 draws.
last draw in 2008 which was a very dull draw against england.
