As for the summer, while Bell-Drummond and Leach look like decent prospects, I think it might be a year or two too early. Last thing we want is to burden them with the weight of expectation.

TBH in this series Duckett actually the only batsman to fail for england.

Cook average with one century + slow fifty
Hameed ok and looking solid
Root Century and 50, good series so far
Stokes century and a fifty plus a good winter with the bat
Ali century on the first test but did struggle in Vizag
Bairstow doing well with the bat

Only person failing his Duckett.

Duckett got a 50 in Bangladesh though.

TBH one 50 in 6 innings isn't that great especially when the other scores are low.

It's more the way he is getting out than the lack of runs

For his sake I think he needs to be pulled out of the firing line before permanent damage is done and his confidence is completely shot

bell-drummond has probably been mooted as an england player alot longer than either duckett or hameed tbh

True, but he's still young. England haven't had a huge amount of success with bringing young batsmen in recently.

His familiarity with India may well have helped at some level, even if only in developing expectations and making the whole experience less unusual off the pitch. Of course he has to have a lot of ability to make that mean anything.

But (give or take being sawn off by Joe Root in the first innings of the last game) it's still pretty thin stuff. He could go on and have an excellent tour, or it could look a bit like Nick Compton's debut tour, who sort of did ok, but didn't really put convincing numbers on the board. The big difference being, that Compo was being picked as an experienced player who had been around long enough to encourage expectation that he might settle in quickly. Whereas, hopefully, Hasseb will be one for the future.

He's sort of done ok so far, and looked the part, but will need a couple of decent scores in the next three games. If he scores a hundred, or a couple of battling fifties in difficult circumstances, he'll probably be given at least the English summer.

bit odd bring parthiv patel back when he not been on the A tours with india after Saha been picked for india.

Anyone seen selvey tweets, can't post it at work but doesn't sound great when they don't trust buttler to score runs but he better than duckett.
Apparently buttler batting 7 and will attack since Bayliss doesn't trust his defence or buttler doesn't either.
Crazy how England 3 remaining bats can't be trust to score runs.

Absolutely mental that we are picking a batsman but the selectors don't think he's good enough to bat in our top six.

If Buttler is at 7 that must mean Ali at 4 after Root (unless it's Ali at 3 and Root at 4) with Stokes & Jonny staying at 5 & 6 respectively.

even as a big fan of buttler i am as well, maybe not annoyed but certainly disappointed, the guy earned his chance and even tho he has struggled deserved more than 4 games

only thing i can say in the defence of the management is they see how he has reacted to the games and his head might be down a bit

Considering how many times Balance has failed since his return and still kept his place, Duckett could be considered unlucky but it probably is wise to take him out and see if Buttler has anything to offer. All the talk that Buttler hasn't played any red ball cricket for months so is bound to fail is just an assumption rather than fact. Being one down in the series means England have less room to be generous to a failing player.
