The second bit was just a colourful analogy. Anderson did directly throw the ball at the batter though and then appeal. It surprised me they appealed.

Can't remember if I mentioned this before regarding a query about whether you can be out if a certain distance from the stumps on drs. I mentioned I'd seen an appeal turned down for this in recent times. Seems the distance from the stumps you won't be given out from is now 3m, rather than the previous 2.5m. Apparently PP was 2.8 from the stumps today.

Sadly, England-India series have often been acrimonious of late. At least this one isn't as bad (yet) as the 2014 series in England.

Anderson and Stokes need to reign it in, but India were certainly not blameless.

Got a feeling England will be fine now think the players got the message, I am worried about kohli and Indian players they could get carried away especially with them getting away with it.
Could sense kohli giving it back to stokes and them basically taunting stokes all series.
Stokes would have to be the bigger man to survive that.

I expect every team tries to wind up Stokes. Hard to be that sympathetic given he doesn't mind handing it out. I remember Samit Patel being picked on, well, it felt like he was being mocked by Kohli and Raina on the last tour. That wasn't pleasant to see.

What actually happens if Anderson throws the ball to hurt the batsman but the batsman was out obstructing the field.
Will Anderson get charged and batsman out?
It is one of the anomalies in the ICC players conduct rules.
If you really following the rules to the max, Anderson would be charged for throwing the ball at the batsman although it is a push to say it was a dangerous throw, but then again Anderson had no need to throw it if that plays a part in it.

I remember Harmison getting Inzi out like that. Stokes as well in the last Ashes series, hit on the hand.

ICC should really make the rules clear so many grey areas in every aspect of the rules.
When you look at it quite easy to contradict many of the ICC rules no wonder match referees have a hard time doing their job when something actually happens which doesn't even include the political pressures they face or even legal pressures when teams decide to bring lawyers into it.

Oh I did get the analogy bit . But the throw was at the stumps/batsman's feet so more a gesture than a serious attempt to either run him out or scare him...bowlers often do this to impose themselves (I don't : once as a young fool I did and the keeper missed it and it cost me four overthrows so thereafter I've restricted myself to threatening to throw :) ) I think the appeal followed because the batsman deliberately blocked the throw instead of putting his bat in the crease as they normally do ... ie , all gamesmanship. But I don't think anyone was too worked up over it.

You are correct about the drs amendment. Apparently the technology is held to be better now. Of course you could still be given out anyway as there is nothing in the laws to say how close to the stumps the batsmen needs to be to be lbw - just that drs cannot help beyond a certain distance.

Picking on Samit Patel sounds like kicking your cat...

Winding up Stokes is fair enough , as he clearly has a short fuse and I think he generally becomes less effective when roused - though I can think of plenty of players who it would be much better not to stir up.
To be honest I suspect most teams are quite calculatedly tactical in who they choose to bait - why wouldn't they be ?

According to Ganguly the distance from the stumps has been increased to 3 metres which means more LBW decisions.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

This is a perfect pitch for batting, excellent bounce and carry.
