Let's look at the players who won the U19 World Cup, and see which teams picked them up....

Guyana - Shimron Hetmyer.

Leewards - Kacey Carty, Alzarri Joseph.

No one picked Gidron Pope, Tevin Imlach, Shamar Springer, Jyd Goolie, Keemo Paul, Michael Frew, Ryan John, or Chemar Holder.

At Providence, veteran Shiv Chanderpaul showed that he was still the best batsman in the batting line up of the defending champions, topscoring with 91 as Guyana closed the first day's play on 279-7. Opener Rajendra Chandrika made 86, but his partner Shimron Hetmyer was out for just five. Leon Johnson and Vishal Singh failed to get going, with 19 and 16 respectively. Left-arm spinner Nikita Miller has taken three wickets for Jamaica so far.

In St Kitts, Barbadian medium pacer Kevin Stoute took three wickets to reduce the Leewards to 210-5. Nkrumah Bonner is 70 not out, while wicketkeeper Jahmar Hamilton made 65, but Kieran Powell (26) and Chesney Hughes (31) failed to capitalise on starts. Keacy Carty was out for a duck and Montcin Hodge went for eight.

Fifteen wickets tumbled at Queen's Park Oval, as Roshon Primus took 6-30 to dismiss the Windwards for 142. Veteran opener Devon Smith carried his bat for 86. Offspinner Shane Shillingford then hit back with three wickets to reduce Trinidad to 139-5, opener Kyle Hope topscoring with 56.

Spinners Veerasammy Permaul (5-60) and Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai (4-66) combined to dismiss Jamaica for 208 on the second day of their four-day match at Providence. Opener John Campbell topscored for the visitors with 71. With a first-innings lead of 90, Guyana reached stumps on 26 without loss.

At Basseterre, the Leewards made 377 all out, Nkrumah Bonner topscoring with 94, while allrounder Rahkeem Cornwall chipped in with 84. Medium-pacer Kenroy Williams took 4-26. Cornwall took two wickets to leave Barbados reeling at 102-3 at the close of play.

In the third match in Port of Spain, the Windwards are heading towards an early hiding. Jason Mohammed celebrated his call-up to replace Darren Bravo by topscoring with 70 in Trinidad's total of 242. Shane Shillingford took most wickets with three. Trailing by 100 on first innings, the Windwards limped to 135-4, opener Tyrone Theophile topscoring with 53.

The day-night match at Queen's Park Oval ended in three days, as bowlers once again dominated batsmen. Tailender Shane Shillingford topscored with 65, as the Windwards limped to 254 all out in their second innings. Legspinner Imran Khan took 5-84. Set a paltry 155 to win, Trinidad knocked off the target for the loss of only Jeremy Solozano's wicket. Kyle Hope finished on 79 not out, and Yannick Cariah 52 not out.

Defending champions Guyana were in a strong position to force a win going into today's final day at Providence. Vishal Singh hit 71, and Leon Johnson, batting at three, made 69, as the hosts notched up 238-4 declared in their second innings. Set an unlikely 329 to win, Jamaica were reeling at nine runs for two wickets at stumps, having lost opener John Campbell and Devon Thomas cheaply.

The Leewards were in the rare position of actually dominating a match, as 12 wickets fell on the third day's play at Warner Park. Tailenders Kenroy Williams and Justin Greaves made 40s as Barbados could only manage a paltry 237 all out in their first innings. The hugely overweight Rahkeem Cornwall continued his domination of this match by taking 5-117 with his offspin, while pacer Gavin Tonge took three wickets. Leading by 140 runs on first innings, the Leewards collapsed to 89-5, left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican taking two wickets to date.

Defending champions Guyana crushed Jamaica by 181 runs at Providence. Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Moti-Kanhai took 4-35, and there were three wickets each for Veerasammy Permaul and Keon Joseph, as Jamaica were dismissed for a mere 147. Jermaine Blackwood was the only batsman to offer any resistannce with 96.

Barbados clung on for a draw in their match at Basseterre. Montcin Hodge (53 not out) and Rahkeem Cornwall (60) carried the Leewards to 164-6 declared, left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican taking three wickets. Set 305 to win, Barbados closed on 235-5, thanks to 84 from Anthony Alleyne and 50s from Shamarh Brooks and Roston Chase. Cornwall took 4-101 in the second innings.

On the first day of the second round, defending champions Guyana got off to a good start, notching up 293 all out at Basseterre, on the back of half-centuries from veteran Shiv Chanderpaul (81 not out), Raj Chandrika (61) and Shimron Hetmyer (53). Once again, the offspin of the massively overweight Rahkeem Cornwall proved the decisive factor for the Leewards, taking 6-87.

At Queen's Park Oval, Barbados made 214-7 thanks largely to a knock of 88 from opener Anthony Alleyne. Legspinner Imran Khan has taken three wickets so far for Trinidad.

In the rain-affected bottom-of-the-table clash at Sabina Park, offspinner Shane Shillingford took three wickets to leave Jamaica reeling at 83-6 at stumps. Opener John Campbell has topscored so far for the hosts.

Once again, poor batting has signalled the start of the PCL. We're still waiting for the first century to be scored by a batsman.

Once again, poor batting continued to afflict the second day of the second round, with no team reaching anywhere near 200.

More than 10 overs were lost to rain and bad light in St Kitts, as the Leewards limped to 157-9 in reply to 293 by defending champions Guyana, a mammoth total by the poor standards of batting in the PCL. Former Test opener Kieran Powell topscored with 79, but there was not much else, as left-arm spinner Gudakesh Moti-Kanhai has taken three wickets to date.

Trinidad were equally pathetic at Port of Spain, only managing 168 all out, as some overs were lost to rain too. Roshon Primus topscored with 65, but there was not much else, as medium pacer Kenroy Williams did most damage with three wickets. Leading by 74 on first innings, Barbados were 20 without loss at stumps.

Jamaica could only manage a paltry 151 at the halfway stage of their rain-ruined match in Kingston. Devon Thomas topscored with 51, while offspinner Shane Shillingford took 5-32.

There was a mixture of good and bad batting on the last two days of the second round.

Leading by 135 runs at Warner Park, Guyana somehow engineered their own downfall, declaring on 233-8, and setting the Leewards a target of 369. Allrounder Chris Barnwell topscored with 61, offspinner Haydn Walsh taking 4-56. Opener Montcin Hodge then hit 114, and Nkrumah Bonner 84, while wicketkeeper Jahmar Hamilton saw the Leewards home for the loss of six wickets. Left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul was the only shining light in the Guyanese bowling attack, taking 4-109.

Leading by 74 on first innings, Barbados posted an imposing 317-2 declared, on the back of opener Anthony Alleyne's 186, and a knock of 76 not out from Shamarh Brooks.

That was the good batting...now for the bad.

Set 392 for victory at Queen's Park Oval, Trinidad were bowled out for an embarrassing 99 all out by pacers Kemar Roach and Kevin Stoute, who took three wickets each. Opener Kyle Hope topscored with 26.

At Sabina Park, it was Miller time!
8-)
In their first innings, the Windwards made 205 thanks largely to 61s from Sunil Ambris and Kyle Mayers. Trailing by 54, Jamaica limped to 159 all out in their second innings, with only John Campbell making any significant runs with a knock of 67. Left-arm spinner Larry Edwards took 6-20. Set a mere 106 for victory, the hosts collapsed for a paltry 64 all out, routed by spinners Miller (5-22) and Damion Jacobs (3-17).

As for the table, it's close for everyone except the Windwards.

Barbados 24.4 points
Leewards 24.2 points
Guyana 24 points
Trinidad 22 points
Jamaica 21 points
Windwards 9.2 points.

These fractions are a bit silly....

A total of 14 wickets fell on the first day of the four-day match at the Darren Sammy National Stadium. Medium-pacer Raymon Reifer took 6-82 to dismiss the Windwards for a paltry 192, Kyle Mayers topscoring with 51. At stumps, defending champions Guyana had limped to 73-4.

Rain wreaked havoc with the other two matches, washing out the entire first day's play in both games.

At the halfway stage of the match at Queen's Park Oval, Trinidad piled up 173-4 on the back of half-centuries from openers Kyle Hope (86) and Isaiah Rajah (69). Part-timers Kieran Powell and Rahkeem Cornwall have taken two wickets each for the Leewards so far.

At Sabina Park, Jamaica struggled to 157-8, largely thanks to a knock of 60 from opening batsman John Campbell. Pacers Kemar Roach, Justin Greaves and Kenroy Williams have taken two wickets each so far for Barbados.

Rain ravaged all three matches in the third round.

On the second day of the four-day match at Gros Islet, 10 wickets tumbled. Guyana struggled to 219 all out on the back of 50s from allrounder Raymon Reifer and wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble. Pacers Mervin Matthew (4-43) and Delorn Johnson (4-54) did the damage for the Windwards, who trailed by 27 runs on first innings. Guyanese pacer Keon Joseph then hit back with four wickets to reduce the hosts to 90-4 at stumps.

Barbados took command of their match on the penultimate day in Kingston. Pacer Kemar Roach took three wickets to dismiss Jamaica for 224 in their first innings. Opening batsman Anthony Alleyne then hit 66 to pilot Barbados at 153-4 at the close of the third day's play.

At the end of the third day's play in Port of Spain, Trinidad still had not completed their first innings, closing on 287-8. Part-timer Kieran Powell has taken three wickets for the Leewards to date.

Wet weather completely washed out yesterday's play in both matches in Trinidad and St Lucia. The Leewards did not even get a chance to bat in the entire match.

At Sabina Park, the match ended in a tame draw. Replying to Jamaica's 224 all out, Barbados could only manage 273 all out, left-arm spinner Fabian Allen taking three wickets. Openers John Campbell and Shacoya Thomas hit 40s as Jamaica batted out the draw on 112-2.
