tour definitely in the 2011 territory now for England.
england haven't played that badly but still getting thrashed because the bowlers are awful and batting lacking application.

Wonder what cook does as a captain does he leave now or after the SA series for the symmetrical points.

if we had another test series this winter i would struggle to see cook not resigning

the 7 months til the next series means a decision is not urgent and he'll get talked out of it by strauss

if he did step down now and root was appointed i wonder if that could be seen as a distraction for morgan's position as ODI captain when all the focus is going to be on ODIs for the next 6 months

Think I am hearing Ashes next winter the crucial point.
if Cook remains then ECB want him to captain the Ashes but if Cook feel he can't get the best out of the side they want Root to captain the whole summer before Ashes.

Media turning on Cook though and attacking him more for not getting the best out of this side.
so even if Cook stays you feel one more loss or poor series will see him go and SA are coming next so everyone knows what that means for captains.

yeah not sure anyone telling him to leave because of 4-0 lost or 3-0 lost but he probably will take it like that.

as you say losing this series shouldn't cost him his job, losing this series after what happened in bangladesh, and the manner of the defeats is what should be considered, at times the last 2 games his decision making and how he has handled his bowlers has been bizarre

in his defence the personnel available to him on the bowling side in particular hasn't been the greatest but making the statements he did before the tour and how flat everything has felt over this series does question how long he wants to keep going

Really the key way of looking at it is would a new captain improve the side if not then keep cook if it does remove cook.

would declare around 200-250 lead.
would want England to bat most of tomorrow under pressure, feel with a small lead around 170-180 give england an easier time tomorrow to achieve the draw.

People will assume that those saying that Cook should go are suggesting England might have won under someone else. I don't think that's the case. It's about having a leader with some energy. Who isn't instinctively negative. Who can convey ideas verbally. Who can make lesser players feel valuable.

there aren't enough overs left in the day to bat for 25 overs AND have 45 minutes to bowl
