Test for Morgan now : this is a great platform ; but they need a big score here and a solid partnership now with Root would be the ideal way to set up Buttler and Stokes for a late flourish. With other batsmen pressing their claims this would be a good time for the skipper to play an innings...

Probably true. But at 154/2 after 26 they are arguably tracking for that sort of total - assuming at least one of Buttler , Stokes or Moeen is able to cash in during the last ten overs...

Of course a couple of wickets would change things. But that's always the case.
