Jamaica beat Guyana by 41 runs at Kensington Oval yesterday. Opener Chadwick Walton hit 82 and Devon Thomas 56 not out, to lead Jamaica to 249-8, while there were two wickets each for Raymon Reifer, Veerasammy Permaul and Steven Jacobs. Veteran Shiv Chanderpaul made 101, but there was nothing of note from the promising youngsters, as Guyana were bowled out for 208 by pacers Jerome Taylor (5-40) and Reynard Leveridge (3-38).

The CCC easily beat a poor Americas team by seven wickets at Lucas Street. Keon Harding, Jermaine Levy and Vikash Mohan took two wickets each to restrict the Americas for a paltry 181-9, Timroy Allen topscoring with 42. Amir Jangoo then hit 52 and Kyle Corbin 47 not out to lead the CCC to victory with more than four overs to spare.

Trinidad had a close two-wicket win over the Windwards at Coolidge yesterday. Wicketkeeper Sunil Ambris topscored with 66, and allrounder Darren Sammy hammered 60 not out 36 balls, to take the Windwards to 266-7. Pacer Ravi Rampaul took 4-43. Opener Evin Lewis then made 64, and Jason Mohammed 80, to lead Trinidad to victory with just two overs to spare. Medium pacer Kyle Mayers took 3-59.

Opener Kieran Powell virtually secured his recall to a weak West Indies ODI side, recently thrashed in Zimbabwe, and with a number of vacancies, by hitting 105 in the Leewards' convincing 88-run win over an outclassed Under-19 side. Keemo Paul took 4-42 to dismiss the Leewards for 245. However, part-time spinner Nkrumah Bonner took 3-30, and there were two wickets each for pacers Kevon Cooper, Alzarri Joseph and Gavin Tonge, as they skittled out the Under-19s for 157. Shamar Springer was the only batsman to offer any resistance with a top score of 57.

There were two disappointing batting performances in Barbados yesterday.

Guyana crushed the CCC by eight wickets at Kensington Oval. Left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul took 3-19 to skittle the CCC out for an embarrassing 129 all out, Kyle Corbin topscoring with just 28. Raj Chandrika then hit 43 and Raymon Reifer 67 not out, as Guyana easily knocked off the total using up only half the overs available.

At the 3W's Oval, Barbados hammered a very poor Americas team by eight wickets. Spinners Ashley Nurse (4-26) and Suleimann Benn (3-19) routed the Americas for a mere 103 all out, Kamau Leverock topscoring with just 21. Kraigg Brathwaite then hit 43 not out as Barbados knocked off the target with 21 overs to spare.

There were two more disappointing batting performances yesterday, this time in Antigua.

The Leewards crushed a poor Windwards side by a massive 184 runs at Coolidge. Kieran Powell continued to press his claims for a recall when he hit 135, and he was supported by knocks of 54 and 70 not out from Montcin Hodge and Rahkeem Cornwall respectively, as the Leewards piled up a mammoth 333-6. Part-time spinner Liam Sebastien took 3-42. Pacer Alzarri Joseph then took 6-31 to rout the Windwards for a mere 149 all out, Kyle Mayers topscoring with 45.

At the Viv Richards Stadium, Kent easily beat Trinidad by five wickets. Ivan Thomas took 4-51 to dismiss Trinidad for a paltry 191, Roshon Primus topscoring with 60. Sean Dickson then topscored with 56 as Kent knocked off the target with more than 15 overs to spare. Pacer Ravi Rampaul took 3-46.

Low batting totals continued to dog the Nagico Super50 in Barbados yesterday.

At Kensington Oval, Barbados squeezed a narrow one-wicket win over Jamaica. Pacers Kemar Roach (3-58) and Jason Holder (3-28) dismissed Jamaica for a paltry 190. Allrounder Rovman Powell hit 74, and he was supported by Jermaine Blackwood with 40. Wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich topscored with 40 as Barbados just got home with two overs to spare. Pacer Jerome Taylor took 3-39.

At Lucas Street, Guyana beat the Americas by five runs on D/L in their rain-affected game. Pacer Ronsford Beaton took 4-28 to restrict the Americas to 220-7, Nitish Kumar topscoring with 66. Opener Asad Fudadin then hit 54, and Leon Johnson 78, to take Guyana to victory.

In another embarrassing batting display, the outclassed Under-19s were crushed by Trinidad by eight wickets at North Sound with nearly all of 40 overs to spare! Left-arm pacer Sheldon Cottrell took three wickets for just six runs, and there were two wickets each for Roshon Primus and Khary Pierre, as Trinidad scuttled the Under-19s for a pathetic 58 all out. Wicketkeeper Emmanuel Stewart scored more than half his team's total with 30. Evin Lewis and Nicholas Alexis hit 19s as Trinidad easily knocked off the target.

A second-string Kent side showed regional sides how you go about chasing a challenging total, by beating the Windwards by four wickets at Coolidge. Callum Haggett (4-59) and Imran Qayyum (3-42) restricted the Windwards to 241-9, wicketkeeper Sunil Ambris topscoring with a round 50. There were 40s for Sam Northeast and Adam Ball, as Kent chased down the target with almost four overs to spare. There were two wickets each for Kavem Hodge and Shane Shillingford.

Yesterday, there were two one-sided victories in Barbados.

At Kensington Oval, Barbados thrashed the CCC by 200 runs. Roston Chase hit 76, and there were 40s from Kraigg Brathwaite and Jonathan Carter, as Barbados piled up 294, Jermaine Levy taking 3-64. Left-arm spinner Suleimann Benn then captured 3-25, and there were two wickets each for Jason Holder and Ashley Nurse, as they dismissed CCC for an embarrassing 94 all out.

At the Three Ws Oval, Jamaica hammered the Americas by 66 runs on D/L. Andre McCarthy and John Campbell hit 60s, and Rovman Powell chipped in with 52 not out, as Jamaica piled up an imposing 251-5. Saad bin Jafar took two wickets for the Americas. Legspinner Damion Jacobs then took 5-24 to dismiss the Americas for just 187. Opener Kamau Leverock hit 75, but received no support from the other batsmen, as the Americas reach the halfway stage of the competition still winless.

In a low-scoring game at the Viv Richards stadium, the West Indies Under-19s pulled off a major upset, beating Kent by 28 runs. But it did not look like happening when Ivan Thomas took 3-39, and there were two wickets each for Darren Stevens and Adam Riley, as they bowled the Under-19s out for just 155. Opener Matthew Patrick topscored with 45. But then Joshua Bishop took 4-44, and Bhaskar Yadram three wickets for just six runs, to skittle Kent out for a pathetic 127 all out. Captain Sam Northeast topscored with 37.

In an exciting encounter at Coolidge, Trinidad handed the Leewards their first defeat of the tournament, beating them by just 11 runs. When left-arm spinner Jason Campbell took 5-37 to restrict Trinidad to just 226-9, it seemed that this target would not be enough. Nicholas Alexis made 50, and Imran Khan 45 not out. When openers Montcin Hodge (82) and Kieran Powell (52) put on 115 for the first wicket, the Leewards appeared to be coasting to victory. But then debutant spinner Khary Pierre took 4-40, and medium pacer Rayad Emrit 3-49, to dismiss the Leewards for 215 all out.

Quite right...the pitch at Coolidge is awful, and the outfield is even worse. I assume that you, like me, were watching Leewards vs Trinidad on ESPN, which is on channel 530, if you have Virgin. It seems that ESPN are only carrying the matches at the CCG. The next match up is Leewards vs Kent this evening, starting in just over two hours' time.

At Lucas Street yesterday, Barbados thrashed a very poor Americas by 171 runs. Kraigg Brathwaite hit 108, and he was supported by knocks from Jonathan Carter (57) and Roston Chase (40), as Barbados piled up 282-9. Cecil Pervez (3-58) and Timil Patel (3-57) were the most successful bowlers for the Americas.
