Low scores continued to dog the competition yesterday.

At the Three Ws Oval, Barbados squeezed past Guyana by two wickets, to secure their place in the semi-finals. Offspinner Ashley Nurse took 3-28, and there were two wickets each for Jason Holder and Roston Chase, as they bowled Guyana out for just 186. Tailender Veerassamy Permaul topscored with 32. Despite medium pacer Raymon Reifer's 4-46, Barbados won with just three balls to spare, thanks largely to half-centuries from Shai Hope (63) and makeshift opener Kevin Stoute (51).

At Kensington Oval, Jamaica had a comfortable 44-run win over the CCC. There were 51s from Jermaine Blackwood and Andre McCarthy, and tailender Jerome Taylor chipped in with 41, as Jamaica struggled to 204 all out. Vikash Mohan took 3-42 and Mark Deyal 3-43. Left-arm spinner Nikita Miller then took 3-12, and there were two wickets for medium pacer Rovman Powell, as the CCC were bowled out for a paltry 160, Cassius Burton topscoring with 28.

Low scores featured in two more matches yesterday.

Group leaders Leewards thrashed the West Indies Under 19s by eight wickets at the Viv Richards Stadium. Left-arm spinner took four wickets for eight runs, and there were two wickets each for Alzarri Joseph and Jason Campbell, as they dismissed the Under 19s for an embarrassing 78 all out. Kirstin Kallicharran topscored with 33. Montcin Hodge and Jahmar Hamilton then scored 31 not out and 42 not out respectively to knock off the target with more than 33 overs to spare.

Trinidad beat the Windwards by 32 runs at Coolidge. Opener Evin Lewis hit 75 and Nicholas Alexis 46, as Trinidad made 214 all out. The wickets were shared by pacer Kesrick Williams (3-47) and spinners Shane Shillingford (3-24) and Kavem Hodge (3-34). Pacer Shannon Gabriel then blasted out the Windwards for 182 all out, taking 5-33. Wicketkeeper Sunil Ambris hit 75 not out, but he did not receive support from any other batsmen.

Scores of over 200 are more often than not proving difficult to chase in this tournament.

It seems that the better scores are being made in Barbados, where the pitches are better than they are in Antigua....

In a match that could decide a semi-final place, Jamaica beat Guyana by 20 runs at Kensington Oval. Opener Steven Taylor hit 86 and there were 40s from Andre McCarthy and John Campbell, as Jamaica piled up an imposing 255. Medium pacer Raymon Reifer took 4-38, and there were two wickets each for pacers Ronsford Beaton and Chris Barnwell. Campbell, a part-time spinner, then took 4-43 to dismiss Guyana for 235. Asad Fudadin scored 57 and Reifer 54.

In the bottom-of-the-table clash at Windward Park, the Americas finally notched up their first win, beating the CCC by 72 runs on D/L. The Americas compiled 265 all out, Nitish Kumar hitting 80, Timroy Allen 69, and Kamau Leverock 55. Jermaine Levy took 4-22 and Vikash Mohan 3-40. Nikil Dutta (3-32) and Timil Patel (3-38) then combined to dismiss the CCC for a paltry 187 all out. Mark Deyal topscored with 68, but there was not much else from the other batsmen.

Finally, a high-scoring game in Antigua!
Veteran Devon Smith hit 101, and he was supported by knocks of 53 from Sunil Ambris and 41 from Andre Fletcher, as the Windwards set an imposing total of 293-8 at Coolidge. Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein took 4-57, and pacer Gavin Tonge 3-75. However, the Leewards chased down the target with four wickets in hand and an over to spare, thanks to knocks of 80 from in-form opener Kieran Powell and 74 not out from allrounder Rahkeem Cornwall. Spinners Liam Sebastien and Kavem Hodge took two wickets each.

Trinidad joined the Leewards in the semi-finals, by easily beating Kent by five wickets at North Sound. Pacer Ravi Rampaul took 4-37 to dismiss Kent for 194, Will Gidman topscoring with 50. Jason Mohammed then struck 78 not out, and Denesh Ramdin chipped in with 56, as Trinidad chased down the target with more than eight overs to spare. Medium pacer Darren Stevens took 3-34.

Jamaica ended the unbeaten run of Barbados, when they crushed the leaders of the group by 74 runs at Kensington Oval yesterday. Opener/wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton hit 58 and Devon Thomas 65, as Jamaica piled up 255-8. Pacer Miguel Cummins took 3-38 and offspinner Ashley Nurse 3-39. Spinners John Campbell (4-43) and Damani Sewell (3-46) then combined to dismiss Barbados for a paltry 181 all out. Kraigg Brathwaite and Shai Hope hit 50s, but they did not receive much support from the other batsmen.

In match that ended up being of academic interest, Guyana crushed the Americas by eight wickets at the Three Ws Oval. Medium pacer Raymon Reifer took 3-15 and legspinner Dev Bishoo 3-28 to dismiss the Americas for a paltry 170 all out. Nikhil Dutta topscored with 38. Shimron Hetmyer then hit 94 and Asad Fudadin 54, as Guyana knocked off the target with more than 21 overs to spare.

With three days of matches to go, the semi-finalists have been decided. They are Barbados, Leewards, Trinidad and Jamaica.

Left-arm spinner Khary Pierre took three wickets for six runs, and there were two wickets each for Sheldon Cottrell and Jon-Ross Jaggesar, as Trinidad routed the Under-19s for a pathetic 108 all out. Emmanuel Stewart topscored for the Under-19s with 20.

There were two more one-sided matches in Barbados yesterday.

The home team secured first place in their group, when they hammered the CCC by 142 runs at Kensington Oval. Jonathan Carter hit 79, Shai Hope 62, and opener Kraigg Brathwaite 51, as Barbados piled up a formidable 294-8. Nino Henry took 3-32 for the CCC, who didn't even come close in their run chase. Spinners Ashley Nurse (3-30) and Suleimann Benn (3-29) routed the CCC for a paltry 151 all out, Jamal Smith topscoring with 42.

At Lucas Street, Jamaica rested experienced players Nikita Miller, Jerome Taylor and Jermaine Blackwood, and they still secured second place with a comfortable five-wicket win over the Americas. Damion Jacobs took 6-34 to rout the Americas for 133 all out in only 31 overs, Hamza Tariq topscoring with 32. Andre McCarthy then hit 47 and Devon Thomas 43, as Jamaica knocked off the target in less than half the allotted overs.

It was carnage at Coolidge in the first semi-final yesterday, as Jamaica massacred defending champions Trinidad by a mammoth 292 runs, sending them home with their tails between their legs.
:o
The top four all got among the runs, with wicketkeeper/opener Chadwick Walton blasting 117 from 96, Florida-born opener Steven Taylor 88 from 71, Jermaine Blackwood 108 not out from 88, and allrounder Rovman Powell a spectacular 95 from just 45 balls, to take Jamaica to a stunning 434-4, the highest score ever in a Caribbean List A game. Pacer Ravi Rampaul took 2-83 for Trinidad.

Pacers Powell (5-36), Jerome Taylor (3-27) and Reynard Leveridge (2-31) then routed Trinidad for a mere 142 all out in just over half the overs available. Jason Mohammed was the only batsman to offer any resistance with a battling 62 not out.

In the second semi-final at Coolidge yesterday, Barbados crushed the Leewards by 110 runs. This result confirms the widely-held belief that the Antigua group was weak, and that the Barbados group was stronger....

Wicketkeeper Shai Hope hit 125, and he was supported by knocks of 54 from opener Kraigg Brathwaite, and 42 not out from allrounder Jason Holder, to take Barbados to 314-7. There were two wickets each for spinners Rahkeem Cornwall and Jason Campbell. Offspinner Ashley Nurse (3-37) and medium pacer Carlos Brathwaite (3-56) then bowled the Leewards out for a disappointing 204 all out. Opener Montcin Hodge hit 63, but he only received support from tailender Jeremiah Louis with 41 not out.

Barbados play Jamaica in the final on Saturday.

Another left-arm spinner, Suleimann Benn, then took 3-33, and there were two wickets each for pacers Kemar Roach, Carlos Brathwaite and Holder, as they bowled Jamaica out for 212 all out.
