australia really needed a couple of wickets in that short session at the end to have any chance

stranger things have happened but tomorrow should be a formality

So 87 or ten wickets tomorrow...

Think I'd rather be in the home team's boots.

Some excellent bowling from India : but the Australian bats rather let their lion hearted bowlers down today. Poor Cummins didn't deserve to have to come back and bowl again just four hours after his first innings efforts !

Unless there's a miracle in the offing , India are going to have this series done around lunchtime...but it's been a great series :thumb

pretty much the line that desribes the results of the series (so far). The bowlers have adapted to the conditions far better than the bowlers. Admittedly this is the area where Aus have struggled for some years now.

Still, Aus have done far, far better than all of us expected, including the batters. Well done to them for that. It has been a great series, and India will be well pleased with themselves when they knock these runs off.

A uneventful start to the day is what India want. Should a couple of wickets fall early, the pressure of what may occur may be too much (getting hopeful here). Fair enough to think that, should the unexpected happen, and India lose all 10 wickets, it probably will go down as the worst day of test cricket in India's history. From what should be a straight forward test and series win to a calamity - and the loss of the top spot in the rankings?

Won't happen though...

If India were chasing 200, I could give them a small chance of being bowled out for 100. If they were chasing 150 there might be that one game in a dozen they might not get them. But chasing a hundred , I can't see it. The ball won't even get old enough to reverse. You've basically got ten overs with the new ball and twenty overs of spin to take ten wickets of a side with one tail ender. And they only need one partnership... and there's always at least one partnership in any bad innings.

Reviews

Before the brain fade,

India 1/6 and Aus 4/9.

After brain fade,

India 4/10. Aus 1/12.

Looks suspicious. Seems like Virat was right

There's a bit of Trump logic, ddb. How would Smith's change in approach improve India's DRS results?

I think some of the Aus reviews lately have smacked of desperation.

The Aus media poured over the footage of Virat's innings, after his aggressive and unsubstantiated claim (that he didn't make, did he?). Found no reviews. or 1 only, and no sign of earlier brain fades.

As well as that, Kohli very adroitly backed away from his claims before the Ranchi test started - well, you didn't make any claims, did you, Virat?

I thought of that, and more similarly (I think) England's 46 all out in Trinidad 1994. Or West Indies 47 to Harmison in 2004. Or England in Jamaica in 2009... But none of them really seem to apply. In all these cases except for 2009, it was a case of a much stronger side in the conditions asserting themselves overwhelmingly. 2009 was the freak. In this instance, India are the stronger side in the conditions.

In cases like Headley at Sydney or Willis at Headingley, the total was significantly larger (the losers in those matches would have chased this total) and that Headingley pitch was an absolute dog.

But I'm supporting the underdogs, so I hope they do it. And besides if India win there's no story and a great series won't get the big fat twist.

I know, AC, I just love every opportunity to bring that up. Especially since on the evidence of this series and the previous England overseas trips, England fans aren't going to have much to smile about during the upcoming Ashes.

I see tempers are flaring on both sides, with Smith at the forefront again.

Geez, Aussie captains do a fantastic job of making themselves unlikable. Ok, he was technically correct. But it's not like Australia have never claimed a grounded catch, now is it, Steven? The third umpire made the correct call, get over it and stop being a bad loser. Reminds me of this incident:

I personally think Virat's injury is just a front so he could become our dressing room expert. It's no surprise our improved statistics since the 3rd test when Virat has been in the dressing room all the time, he has also not spent time wasted by batting.

Nice to be reminded of Ponting's run out in 05. When England lose we can always replay the old classics.

I can still remember Nicholas reading out Ricky's apology on the dvd, to 'all who view me as a role model'.
