Who will be relegated from County Championship Division 1?

Only one side can yo-yo this year, and this is notoriously hard to predict.

Pick two sides.

Lancs and Essex. But maybe Somerset will be this year's team to fail to maintain the previous summer's form.

Not a lot of wriggle room in CC1 now.

That's my view as well, I think Hampshire will go down but who will join them I dare not say.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Hants have a few players in. But it can take tie to gel- as Surrey have found in the past.

I'd say that Lancashire, Hampshire and the Bears are the likely candidates.

Yorkshire and Lancashire, largely based on the inexperienced and uninspiring appointments of new head coaches.

Tongue in cheek comment I assume but is the head coach role not overplayed? Surely long term success depends on the quality of the Academy coaches. Once a player reaches 1st team standard any help then required should come from a psychologist rather than a cricket coach.

If Somerset go back to flat wickets, it's between them, us, Lancs, Essex and Warks. But if Somerset again produce raging turners, then no doubt they can be excluded from that group.

Yorks, Middlesex and Surrey should all be fine.

depends on whether they persist in preparing 2 day pitches and whether their unplayable spinner can be as effective now that he's had to remodel his action, I suppose. I have absolutely no idea why he had to remodel his action

Having a strong academy system helps and builds a good base for any county team, but there are players who develop later in their senior career and having a good first team coach makes all the difference. Most cases a late developers improvement comes from a change in technique or training method.

One example under Jason Gillespie, Steven Patterson has improved beyond recognition where he has become a genuine wicket taking bowler as well as building up dot balls. Even when Yorkshire would have all pace bowlers available for selection, Patto often makes up the pace quartet despite a lack of England credentials.

As for Yorkshire relegation, I think it can happen. Pace bowlers are already picking up injuries and there is a lack of depth in the batting department. Two fewer games and no mug teams in Division 1 means a good start is all the more important.
