at least Woakes was a justified pick, what is annoying is when english test players are picked because they are playing test and county form is used to justify them getting picked for the award.
that really lessens the award since someone better could be picked or secondly when the players does something special the player can't be picked.
personally think the 5 players should be players that did something memorable last year in the English season.

That is what the award is for. How can you tell the people who make the award what they should have as their criteria when it's been a tradition for so long.

Next time I fail an exam I'll go to the examiner and tell him the criteria he marked me on was wrong.

Traditions can change.
only recently it was a tradition that Women can't be members of a certain golf club.
also their been plenty of rule changes in the Wisden awards criteria over the years.

Some of the comments below the indian article are funny they do realise that indian players asking for money essentially means less of them are under pressure to play in the IPL or do endorsement deals which someone said yesterday less cricketers outside Kohli are getting gigs at.
if anything getting paid more for your country essentially means the players are more likely to play for the country or make decision benefiting the country cricket team.
Just because the likes of Kohli are very rich and highly paid that players like Hardik pandya, Jayant yadav, kuldeep yadav, Karun Nair etc can't get good wages when the players are breaking through the indian team.
