Just a shame it came 5 overs into day 1, means Abbott has bowled 53+ in the game including 20 on day 1, the he batted for over a session too.

The over before he limped off was quality aswell which included he wicket

I'm disappointed now, because at the start of play today, i thought we had a great chance of winning, and then when they were 8 down...

Beating Yorkshire has given us fresh hope. We traditionally start the season badly, so to not get across the line and register two wins out of f two is disappointing, especially with the what ifs with the Edwards injury.

In the cold light of day it's a good start.

Exactly the same niggle.

If he was fit, we probably would have won. Equally, if Crane was in the team, we probably would have won: Dawson was so unthreatening, that I would have had a shout of keeping him out. No word of lie, Ervine was getting the ball to turn more than Dawson did (Christ Slug bowls slowly these days). Not that it was much, but it was something.

Wicket was totally dead though. New ball really was the only way to get wickets - and we were very unlucky not to get more than the three wickets that we did get with it. But either side of it, Middlesex did a very professional job in batting out the draw. Only over they really attacked was when Wheal bowled an over of short balls to Murtagh, with five men on the boundary square and behind square both sides of the wicket, and not a single person (other than himself, as bowler) in front of square. And Murtagh duly dispatched the ball for three fours down the ground.

I said yesterday that we were about two hours behind in the match (duly to neither side batting particularly quickly in the first innings). And ultimately, we never really managed to move on from there. We pretty much always required that one extra session to exist.

Shows how important bonus points can be, that despite us beating Yorkshire last week and being unbeaten this season, we are only one point ahead of Yorkshire. And only seven ahead of Lancs, who haven't even won a game yet.

In fact, even if we were draw Yorkshire next game, if they picked up two more bonus points than us in the process - which is very possible - they would actually leapfrog us, despite having drawn and lost to us, and us still being unbeaten!

(Not meaning to sound negative here. I'm very, very happy with our start to the season. Just making the point about how important bonus points are.)

Yep, that is another reason for my disappointment today. We have played alot better than our 29 points suggest.

A similar ploy almost came off the over before, Murtagh looping the ball just short of Dawson. But for that particular over, we still had a mid on and mid off in place. Whether it was that ball dropping safe that persuaded Vince to put them both back for the short ball too the next over, I don't know.

Wheal spent most of his time bowling short, even when more regulation type fields were in place. Such was the lack of assistance in the pitch I guess (and with no Fidel, he was our quickest bowler out there). Just a shame that Middlesex were in a position where they could regularly afford to duck out the way rather than playing. Only success it ultimately had was Roland-Jones. Decent catch running in by Jimmy.
