First Carberry for 98. Then Rilee for 99. Now Berg for 99*.

But those last three wickets have done though is surely to ensure that we won't lose. It'll take Yorkshire until about the end of tomorrow to pull level with us, if we haven't already bowled them out. And that is a very different prospect to the one Middlesex faced last week towards the end of day three, when they had an 80 run deficit to first get over.

If Yorkshire were to push onto 500+, you would hope we'd be into day four by then. And thus a much small timeframe for us to have to bat out.

First things first though; look for win. And on this surface, with Root and Bairstow in the side and a deep batting line-up, that simply has to mean wickets with the new ball.

Now the big wicket. Berg on fire today.

We are good this season. Far too early to say Championship winning good, but good nonetheless. Best since 2005? I did make that suggestion before the season, looking at our team on paper.

Great start with the new ball. I fully expected, after our 10th wicket partnership for Yorkshire to be 150/1 at stumps.

And what did you say when we were 25 overs into our first innings at Headingly?!

That wicket is the 30th consecutive delivery Abbott has bowled without conceding

That final hour on day one of our season just stands out all by itself. 100% the Hampshire of previous years. Everything else, particularly when you consider the opposition, has been brilliant this season.

Very interesting to see how Topley goes. He must be coming on any moment.

Looks like a fantastic day for batting at the Rosebowl today.

Nailed on draw, just hope we can max out on the bowling points and at least hit the 40 point mark by the end of the match.
