Now I know it only 2nd XI cricket (and I disregard 2nd XI performances more than most people), but we've hit 230-7 off 20 overs in a 125 run victory. Of the three first-team players selected, Wood hit 34 off 14 but didn't bowl. Taylor took 6-23. Wheal neither batted nor bowled.

Very surprised that we've gone with Holland to replace Dawson. I thought Smith or Alsop were nailed on. I appreciate that it would have left us with only four front-line bowlers - and no doubt on a flat Rose Bowl wicket, at that - but our batting has been brittle recently, albeit on two very difficult wickets. Weakening it doesn't make a huge amount of sense.

That said, Holland is supposedly an allrounder, so maybe it's not as weakened as I fear.

Smith has been mugged off, should have been a straight swap of him and Holland for Vince and Daws

Solid enough, and a brilliant partnership of course. An extra 40 runs would have been nice, but I'll accept the RR given just three wickets down.

Tough to know where this innings will end up. The next four guys can all bat, but these two are the final of our proper frontline batsmen. We could turn 293 into 550. Or into 360. Either way, I can't see us losing from here now.

I'm intrigued to see how Salisbury goes when it comes to it. I know he's taken a fair few wickets for the 2nds recently (and Fidel, Wheal, Stevenson and Wood are all injured), but I was quite shocked this morning to see him selected. Topley hasn't been great this season, yes, but the guy is young and has hardly bowled in 18 months. But all the best to Salisbury, hopefully he takes his chance.

That might be Dawson back down the order again.

A bit scratchy maybe but you can't fault Adams' grit.

Yeah, you think that Adams has to stay in the team next game now (albeit we do sit out the next round of matches, so it is a couple of weeks away yet).

Now that Ervine has a big score of his own, it's actually Dawson who is arguably performing worst with the bat this season. But given his option with the ball, he is almost undroppable. Which probably puts Rilee and Carberry under most pressure. (I think with Rilee, it is just a case of him needing to adjust his game to English conditions - and fair enough, he has never played county cricket before - and appreciate that trying to blast it from ball one isn't a requirement)

Taken the opposite approach to last week. No bonus point ambition

Come on, a fourth batting point should have been straightforward at start of play.

We've never been a team to care much about bonus points (often to our cost).

As long as we win the game, I wont mind at all.

You're right, we rarely ever convert even when we're in decent positions. Also advances a game which might need every bit of the four days if we up the rate when we're only 3 down.

I guess I won't be bothered too much unless of course we miss out on the title by one point!
