Promising start for Zimbabwe.

Bat to lunch tomorrow plus tight bowling for Zimbabwe and could have a fight on here.

Sri Lanka 293-7, half-centuries from Tharanga and Chandimal. Cremer has taken three wickets so far...this is a competitive match. Zimbabwe still belong in Test cricket, even if it is developing into a two-tier scenario.

Is it about time that we started valuing Herath as one of the best bowlers of all time?

His thirtieth fivefer today puts him one above Glenn McGrath and into fifth in the alltime list. With Herath having retired from One Day and T20 cricket he can focus all his attention on Test cricket and maybe placing himself second on that all time list.

You see there is a very tightly packed cluster of world class bowlers that sit between second and fourth in the all time list of fivefer takers and, with a couple of years worth of Tests in him, Herath might be able to usurp them. The thing is that these names are fairly big hitting in nature. Fourth in the list is Anil Kumble with 35, then comes Richard Hadlee with 36 and then Shane Warne with 37. This means that Herath is 8 fivefers away from placing himself firmly as second on the list. You'd imagine that fellow Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan's 67 might be a tad beyond his ken.

To me, Herath seems like an anomaly on that list but is that unfair? Is he up there with the Kumble and Hadlees of this world and we just undervalue him?

A bit like Hadlee in that he is his side's only world class bowler so is likely to get a high percent of the wickets. So is more likely to get 5-fers. Also very much a home conditions bowler (in terms of his reputation) averaging 22 against 38 away so he doesn't take his reputation on the road. Some of the impression a player leaves behind is a little bit of showbiz that helps make a player a legend, and he scores low there. And he doesn't have a vociferous home following to bang out his qualities for him. Undeservedly, he feels a player who won't be easily remembered when he retires.
I always say that everybody's right.

plus herath success shows how poor batsman are to spin these days.
herath just keeps it simple and takes wickets on guile rather than big turn.

Makhaya Ntini really has worked wonders with this Zimbabwe bowling attack.

Good move that Afghanistan and Ireland being brought as a test nation.
Feel Sri Lanka golden generation is over and they will be struggling to beat the top nations consistently now apart from the few odd wins and probably at a level just above the associates.

Still pretty embarrassing stuff for Sri Lanka to struggle against Zimbabwe in test cricket.
