i know hindsight is a wonderful thing but surely when they got here yesterday, saw the pitch and saw the weather forecast for the weekend, they must have realised they didn't need 6 bowlers but without having the option of a specialist bat even in the squad, they couldn't change the team even if they wanted to

Was an odd choice to lock themselves into a set XI so long before the game. Fair to argue they read the conditions well at Lord's (even if one wishes to quibble at the actual players picked) ; but they certainly seem to have completely ignored the weather and the reputation of Trent Bridge in going with the same lineup.

May not have helped anyway with the toss and the way SA have bowled today ; but one more proper batsman would surely have made sense.

I get the feeling Bayliss is rather a stubborn man (sticking with Roy through the ODI s ?) . Wonder how he will react to this ?

They may do but I can still see them getting a 300 lead which in similar circumstances to Lords we won't get anywhere near.

Not sure how long now we've been playing with a team where half the players are droppable?

No mistake with Broad this time by SA - failed to review a similar scenario at Lords and he got 50.

Captaincy has been much better, although there are those who say it makes little difference

Anderson beating the bat but no edge yet...I guess batting might be easier on Monday if the weather changes ; but even so it's hard to see England chasing even 280 so there isn't much room for optimism even with a possibly shaky SA batting order.
Only going to take a couple of bats to play half decent hands and they can put this out of reach...and rough on England's not-altogether-youthful bowlers to be back out there bowling again so soon after their first innings efforts...
