Headingley is pretty flat when the sun is out, so a great chance for Stoneman/Malan/Westley.

And the WI bats.
I always say that everybody's right.

With the WI attack and a nice looking pitch and blue skies, you won't win much money betting on a Cook century.

You wouldn't have won anything.

Early wickets for Gabriel and Roach...the key man Cook is out, and so is Westley.

To be fair to them, the West Indies have bowled much better this morning than they did at Edgbaston. As I said, having Gabriel back surely helps. England 2 down for not many would be depressing if it weren't so common.

Westley looked uncomfortable for his short stay at the crease. Again. Really not convinced by him at test level. I hope Stoneman can stick around.

I guess we have given up with England ever making strong starts again.

If we can't do it against the Windies, it ain't happening against anyone else.

Westley clearly isn't test standard, Stoneman will no doubt prove in due course he isn't Strauss' successor either.

Although the West Indies have bowled much better this morning England should not be in this position. Back to the drawing board for 2 and 3?

Bring back Compton?

It really is amazing that no-one has managed to average over 32 opening the batting with Cook for England, since Strauss' retirement, apart from Root of course, who is better at 4. Even someone who managed high 30s would be something at this point. But no-one has had more than 11 tests, and most 7 or less, before being discarded. For every promising start, there has been a dismal failure to follow it up.

Cloud cover and relatively humid air, naturally the new ball is going to do a bit.

Probably a good toss to lose for the West Indies.

Apart from Cook no one really expected many runs from the other guys.

So can't be overly bothered yet.
