Buttler will get big scores in the ODIs and Bayliss will want him. I can even see him replacing one of 2,3 or 5 somewhere in the Ashes and everyone moving up the order.

Buttler has played 5 f/c matches in 2 years 145 runs at 15.62. He played 3 Tests in India as a batsman.

2017 so far
Foakes 612 runs at 46.30 (18 inns 29 dismissals)
A Davies 812 at 42.73 (20 inns 43 dismissals)

Can see both on the Lions tour. Think Foakes is the better keeper and has more experience.
Interesting to note that in one of the warm up games in Australia last time Bairstow was injured and Root was the keeper. :)

I went for Foakes. Buttler really needs to prove himself in fc cricket before being picked.

'Any format of international cricket that you perform in gives you a chance to be selected in other formats,' he said.

The selectors think so too. :facepalm

I would have thought that Buttler would have wanted to play in the T20 Global League in South Africa and then the Big Bash rather than sit on the bench in Australia. It seems that he sees himself as a number 7.

Oh good lord are we expected to take that seriously ?

Surely if he isn't keeping the only reason for picking him would be if he was the best man for the number five batting spot ? Bringing in a "specialist" batsman at seven and moving the others up makes about as much sense as it did in India. He wasn't a disaster with the bat there ; but it gained the team precisely nothing....

Surely Buttler hasnt done enough to go. Its time to look towards Ben Foakes surely, if his keeping ability is as good as suggested, its a no nonsense move?

The concern is Bairstow is struggling with the bat, maybe moving him back up the order at Malan's expense and slotting Foakes in would work, not only from a batting perspective.
